Library Committee The library committee is requesting that if you bor-row books, when you return them, please put them in the return box. This library is for the pleasure of all of our residents, so if you borrow a book, BRING IT BACK. Please note: NO HARDCOVER BOOKS OR MAG-AZINES SHOULD BE LEFT IN THE LIBRARY. We can not accommodate them. We also wish to ask all who move furniture into the library area for more space for their function to return it to where it was originally.

Thank you, The Library Committee

In the club house as you enter the front door to your right is the lost and found box attached to the wall. If you lost something it might be there. If you find something place it there. Everything is all in one spot.

Aluminum Can and Paper Recycling The Men’s golf club would like to remind our res-idents that the can bin is for aluminum cans only, not trash or bottles. The scrap paper container is also for paper only. Thank you for adhering to this rule.

Puzzles  Puzzles  Puzzles There is nothing more frustrating than completing a jigsaw puzzle to find that there are pieces missing. I know because it has happened to me.  We are asking you PLEASE, if you take a puzzle from the library and find yourself in that situation, DISCARD THE PUZZLE.  You will be saving the next person from having that let down feeling.

Thank you, The Library Committee

Ladies Golf Hello, Lady Golfers of the Village. I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Elaine Mo-rales and I have been newly elected as the President of the Ladies Golf League for the upcoming 2017 - 2018 season. I’m excited to begin our new season on November 1, 2017. If you are not here yet then, don’t let that stop you from joining

us when you do get here. We will golf 18 holes on Wednesday mornings at Countryway Golf course. We encourage any lady who wants to play to contact me via text at 763-245-6895 or by email to [email protected] by the Sunday before golf day on Wednes-day. Dues to join the league will be $10.00 per season. Beginning in the fall we will hold monthly meetings that will be announced in the bulletin. Guests and occasional golfers are welcomed to play, so please contact me or our new Vice President, Linda Turk at 618-580-4923. Have a nice summer and see you next fall!

Book Club The book club had an uplifting discussion on The Secret Life of Bees and enthusiastically decided to keep meeting throughout the summer months.  Our next meeting will be a discussion of The Reader  by Bernhardt Schlick.  Patty McClusky has copies of the book.  The gathering to discuss this book, now a film starring Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslot, will be held at 1:00 at Donna Linder’s home at 271 Colonial on April 27.   On May 25th we will be discussing Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese.  This book is not part of a kit but Lyn Mehl has placed used book orders for 11 women who requested this at our last meeting.  You will be notified as the books come in.  The May meeting will be held at Lyn’s home, 241 Philadelphia Blvd. Again we will meet at 1:00.  All are welcome!

Men’s Golf What a great opportunity I have been given to represent Men’s Golf. I would like to thank Andy Ripic for the excellent job he did as president for the past six years. Also, I would like to thank Ed Santilli for his work on the board. Harry Horner has taken Ed’s place along with the task of keeping track of our golfer’s handicaps, scorecards, and prize money. Harry is a wonderful addition to the board. Bill Otto will take over Harry’s job during the summer. Jack Rossi organized a “States Contest” where golf scores for each member were separated by their home state. Indiana won the contest and the Hoosiers were awarded with the coveted “States Trophy”. Steve Andrews has been busy organizing our month-ly golf outings at different courses. Our first outing was at Wentworth Golf Club and the winners were Bob Verbridge, John Dougherty, Jim Bulduc, and Bob Waite. Our last outing was at Quail Hollow Country Club and the winners were Fred Fly, Rich Lamb, John LeFrancois (J.L.), and Pat Howes. Both outings were followed by a lunch prepared and hosted by Jack Rossi. Jack allows us to use his home for boasting, jeering, and laughter. Our annual golfer’s tournament was handled by Chuck Bondi and the winners were Bob Verbridge shooting from the white tees and John Hassett from the red tees. Our golf banquet was held at Leo’s Italian Restaurant where good food and prizes were enjoyed. Awards and ribbing were shared. The most memorable was the award given to Bob Verbridge, a “foot wedge”. He was awarded a golf shoe with an actual club affixed to the toe of the shoe. (A foot wedge is a term used when he kicks his ball out of a problem area and does not count the stroke) I want to thank Warren Perry and Scott Dodril for organizing the banquet. Thanks to Steve Andrews and his crew for collecting prizes for each golf member. A great time was had by all. The island by the entrance to the village is looking great due to Fred Fly and his green thumbed helpers. Thanks to John and Sherry Sundoff for donating a Rubella Palm tree to replace the missing tree on the island. One last thing: Two guys were playing golf and as they approached the side of a lake one says to the other, “Look at those idiots out there fishing in the rain!”

Pat Howes, President

Boat Club News I think we were able to shut down the boat club season with a big bang. Our DJ (Robin) did a great job and the Bon Voyage party ran over by an hour with dancing and a lot of great laughs and friendships saying farewell for the summer. We had over 200 people at the dance and at times there was a full floor of line dancers going strong and looking good. We had 24 tables with ten per table and we had to move in extra chairs for late attendance. Thank you to all my officers and directors for their work and hard efforts during the winter season to make this a great year of activities. Our experienced and new officers blended well and worked together to make all the events run smooth. Even for the first time the Derby Day went off great with a lot of fun for many, many of our neighbors. The presentation of the Boat Club Flags engraved in wood and encased in a walnut frame and glassed in will make a beautiful addition to the clubhouse commemorating the Boat Club Officers. Thanks to our son Barry Osborne for his woodworking skills and diligence in designing the flags, our village insignia and the American flag. I am looking forward to seeing all of our neighbors in the fall and I pray all of you will have a healthy and safe summer.

FYI from the MailmanHello, Villagers, A couple things I wanted to share with you; if any-body needs address change forms, mail hold forms or stamp by Mail envelopes just ask me or leave a note in your box and I can provide these.  The stamps by mail program works great. Typically when I get the envelope and turn it in I can deliver your stamps the next day. Now something that I think is pretty neat. The United States Postal Service will now let residents digitally preview their mail before it is delivered to their homes. The new service is called informed delivery. Residents can sign up to receive daily emails with pictures of their mail. The images only show the outside of the letter-sized mail pieces, and each email will contain up to 10 black and white pictures a day. The new service is only offered to homes. Businesses and P.O. boxes are excluded. Residents can sign up for the service here. https://informeddelivery.usps.com/box/pages/intro/start.action

Marney’s Corner Welcome! A question I have been asked more than once over the years is about improvements that will help retain or add value to a manufactured home. In my experience, one of the best ways is to, maintain it and stay on top of needed repairs. Shampoo carpets, replace worn floors, re-caulk bathroom and kitchen fixtures (if needed), clean tile grout, paint or paper walls. Kitchens are considered the heart of the home. Replacing the faucets, adding new cabinet door handles, or replacing old lighting fixtures, fresh paint, or if you want to go further, re-face the cabinets and drawer doors without having to purchase all new cabinets will give the kitchen a facelift. Hint: If you purchase a new appliance such as a microwave, it is a good idea to match it up with the ex-isting appliances. Bathrooms are second to kitchens. If your tub or shower is look-ing a bit grungy, try re-grouting the tile, replace damaged tiles, and shine up or replace faucets. Sometimes easy fixes like a new toilet seat will do, but if your toilet, sink, or flooring is in poor condition, consider replacing them. Exterior - Check your entrance door. Is it in need of paint, repair, or replacement? Hint: If you prefer to keep an existing metal door, people are using metal primers and paint for metal, to easily paint the door. Curb appeal is powerful. Paint or pressure wash the siding and driveway and replace or repair skirting around your home. If you’re not in the market to replace windows, it is a good idea to caulk window frames and replace screens, if needed. This is just a short list. In future articles, we can discuss other repairs and improvements. We would like to hear from you with your ideas. Also, if you are a new resident and have not received a welcome packet, stop by or send an email to: [email protected]

From the Editor’s Laptop Has anyone been to Bed, Bath & Beyond lately?  What a mess in the parking lot! I was talking to the manager of Bed, Bath & Beyond and he said that World Market and Hobby Lobby are going to go in along with 2-3 restaurants.  Sounds like a good place to spend a day but not for about a year. I saw a trailer of trash bins in the Village so I followed him.  Seems he was deliv-ering to some of the individual homes.  I guess they had called Progressive. If you want one I guess that’s what you have to do.  Be sure if you do get one or already have one and you’re leaving for a period of time secure it, preferably in a shed or garage, or you may not have it when you come back.  We never know what the wind might do while we’re gone. I want to thank those who  donated blood at our April blood drive.  We met our goal of 10 donors. Every donation can save 3 lives.  We will have another one next fall. Thanks to the Easter bunny for visiting the Village. I’m sure it made some young visitors very happy....and some adults too.  Maybe next year he can get a list of shut ins and he could make a stop at their homes to share the joy. I want to warn those of you on the inter-net to NOT click on the stories on the side.  I’ve seen false articles saying Bill Cosby died, Will and Kate are breaking up, etc. trying to get an unsuspecting person to click on it. At least one of our residents found out the hard way that if you click on them it puts a virus on your computer and then ‘they’ want money to fix it for you.  Don’t fall for it. That’s it for this month. Remember the next issue will be combined June/July and will be delivered the end of May. Hope to have lots of pictures and arti-cles about the summer activities. Wish-ing all of my fellow residents a GREAT summer wherever you are spending  it.

Summer Activities Well it is now May and it is “Back Home Again in Indiana” with the children and grandchildren. Time is moving quickly as always. Hope all of the snowbirds arrived to their destinations safely and we will all soon be flying south once again. While we are away, the summer activities are planned and ready to go for all of you permanent res-idents. Bob and Patty Wieneke with Helen Ellis have all of the Koffee Klutch meetings ready to go along with all of the holiday parties and pool parties (remember no glass around the pool) organized for your fun and enjoyment. Don’t forget to ask to help with the set-ups and clean ups so these activities can continue. The pitch-in signup sheets are located on the social

bulletin board. So don’t forget to help out and we can continue the fun. Enjoy your summer and we will be stopping in sometime for a short summer visit. See you then. Ann
