    6. o increase the students awareness o and involvement in evangelism and world missions

    7. o help train students or churchrelated, countercult, and apologetic ministry

    Philosophy of Education

Southern Evangelical Seminary believes that the one, innitely wise, personal, triune God is thesource o all truth. Tis truth is maniest in both general revelation (Ps. 19:16; Rom. 1:1920)and special revelation o Scripture (John 10:35; 2 im. 3:1617).

As persons created in Gods image (Gen. 1:27; Jas. 3:9), redeemed rom sin by His Sons death andbodily resurrection (Luke 24:3839; 1 Cor. 15:16), renewed in His image (Col. 3:10), and taughtby His Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 2:1314), we are capable o understanding Gods truth and sharing Hislove (2 Cor. 5:1415) with a world that is otherwise in darkness (2 Cor. 4:34), error (John 8:32),and evil (Rom. 5:12; 1 John 2:1617).

As a Christian educational institution, we endeavor to discover, disseminate, and deend the truth andlove God has revealed (1 Pet. 3:15; John 13:3435). We believe this is best accomplished in an atmo-sphere where students are oered a Biblebased, Christcentered (2 Cor. 10:5), and Godhonoringeducation (1 Cor. 10:31); where teacher and learner endeavor to know both the truth and the times(1 Chr. 12:32; Phil. 2:1415), both the message and the milieu in which it is proclaimed.

    In order to achieve our goal, we provide an educational opportunity where the Christian worldviewis both a ramework or thinking and a dynamic or living. o accomplish this, students should betaught not only to think correctly but also to pray ervently and to live uprightly (Jas. 5:16; Deut.6:49; Mark 12:2931). Tis occurs most eectively when both instructor and student relateproperly to God and to one another through Christ, in view o His imminent return (Acts 1:78;

    1 Tess. 4:1318).

doctrinal Statement1. We believe the sixtysix books o the Old and New estament Scripture alone to be verbally

inspired by God and inerrant in the original text, and that they alone are o supreme and nal

    authority in aith and lie.

    2. We believe in one God who is Creator o heaven and earth, who is innite Spirit, light, love, and truth; eternal, almighty, inallible in all things, including His oreknowledge o all utureevents as well as all ree choices; that He is unchangeable, all wise, just, and holy; and that thetriune God eternally exists in one essence and three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

    3. We believe in the special creation o the entire spacetime universe and o every basic orm olie in the six historic days o the Genesis creation record. We also believe in the historicity othe biblical record, including the special creation o Adam and Eve as the literal progenitors oall people, the literal all and resultant divine curse on the creation, the worldwide ood, andthe origin o nations and diverse languages at the tower o Babel.

    4. We believe in Jesus Christ, the Second Person o the rinity, the Eternal Word maniested inthe esh. We believe that He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born o the virgin Mary, andthat He is true God and true man, having two distinct natures cojoined in one Person.

    5. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died as a representative and substitutionary sacrice orthe sins o every human being and thus oers salvation as a ree git based on grace alone.

    6. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ arose rom the dead in the same physical body, thoughgloried, in which He had lived and died, and that His resurrection body is the pattern o thatbody which will be given to all believers at the return o Christ.

    7. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven in the same gloried physical body

in which He arose, was seated at His Fathers right hand, assuring us o the perection o Hiswork o redemption, and that He now, as Head over all things to the Church, is engaged onbehal o the saved as their only Advocate.

    8. We believe in the personal, imminent, and premillennial return o the Lord Jesus Christ orHis redeemed ones ollowed by His millennial reign on earth.

    9. We believe that man was originally created in the image and likeness o God, and that he ellthrough sin; and that as a consequence o his sin, he became dead in trespasses and sins, andthat he became subject to the power o the devil. We also believe that this spiritual death, ortotal depravity o human nature, has been transmitted to the entire human race, the ManChrist Jesus alone being excepted; and hence that every child o Adam is born into the world

with a nature which is totally corrupt.10. We believe that only those who receive the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior on the condition o

aith alone, apart rom all good works, are thereby born again o the Holy Spirit, are justiedonce and or all, and have become children o God.

    11. We believe that the Holy Spirit, being the Tird Person o the Godhead, convicts men o sin, regenerates, indwells, baptizes, seals, and sets believers apart to a holy lie; that He keeps andempowers believers day by day. We believe that He is the eacher o the Word o God throughwhich He guides us in our daily lives.

    12. We believe in the eternal security and everlasting blessedness o the saved, and the eternalconscious punishment o the lost.

    13. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ instituted only two ordinances: water baptism and theLords Supper, to be observed until He comes. We believe that water baptism is not necessary orsalvation but that it is an outward symbol o salvation and a sign o our obedience to Him.

    14. We believe that the universal Church o Jesus Christ is composed o those who have been re-deemed and washed in His blood, regenerated and sealed by the Holy Spirit, and that they aresaved to worship and to serve; that it is the responsibility and privilege o all who are saved toseek to win others to Christ, to the uttermost part o the earth; that they should seek to livea holy lie, to separate themselves rom and orsake all that might dishonor God, cast discrediton His cause, or weaken their testimony.

    15. We believe that there is a personal devil, a being o great cunning and power, who is the princeand the power o the air, the prince o this world, and the god o this age. We believe thathe can exert vast power but only as ar as God permits him to do so; that he shall ultimatelybe cast into the lake o re and brimstone and shall be tormented day and night orever.

    introduction

A Word from the SES Board of Trustees

We believe you are about to make one o the most signicant decisions in your lie.

o paraphrase Dickens, we live in the best o times and in the worst o times. According to AssociatePress religion writer Richard Ostling, not only has the church in North America ailed to conveyits message to the next generation, the church seems increasingly unsure just what that message is.Tere is a unique challenge acing Gods people. But rom Gods perspective there are real oppor-tunities to be ound within difcult times. Te good news is that people are asking questions andseeking real answers. As challenges bring people to their knees, we can give them the Good Newso Jesus Christ. Since 1992 SES has been preparing pastors, missionaries, doctors, lawyers, dentists, engineers, teachers, and other lay persons to evangelize the world and to deend the historic Christianaith (Matt. 28:18-20; 1 Peter 3:15). While others are wavering on timeless truths, SES is standingstrong or the aith once delivered to the saints (Jude 3).

Why do so many come rom so ar? We believe that Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES) is uniquein its commitment to stand in the gap between our post-modern world and thoughtul Christianity. We have been called to a reasoned aith that is more than a blind leap. Here you will learn how toreason in order to change the world or Christs sake.

Join other SES students and graduates who are making an eternal impact or Christ. At SES you willbe trained to think clearly, critically, and rationally and to engage people in meaningul dialogue. We have proessors who will challenge your mind, strengthen your aith, and warm your heart. Weare educators, but we are compassionate brothers and sisters in Christ who will come alongside you

in your journey. We take you seriously, and we hope you will seriously take a look at SES.

According to Southern Evangelical Seminarys Purpose Statement, one o the unique aspects o theprogram is that it is implemented in relation to the local church or outreach ministry. Studentswhether resident or online are encouraged to work with local churches. Te eld experience programis key to providing this local church exposure.

Field experience means a regular personal involvement in some aspect o a ministry that is peopleoriented and supervised. It involves a two to three hour per week commitment in ministry.

Wherever the student may reside there are usually numerous avenues or the practical applicationo theological training. Te relationship Southern Evangelical Seminary has with many o the localchurches oers a wide range o ministry opportunities or direct involvement in ongoing, churchrelated service.

Students are permitted to arrange their own eld experience involvement, but they must be clearedthrough the Director o Field Experience beore the eld experience begins, and tuition or the ser-vice must be paid, or credit will not be granted. At the completion o a terms experience, a detailedreport must be submitted. On the basis o this report and on recommendation o the ExperienceSupervisor, a pass/ail grade will be recorded or each required term o eld experience.

Te Seminary views Field Experience as an essential part o the learning process. Te goal o theprogram is to develop the student in our areas:

    1. Personal Maturity. Te character o the Christian worker is as important as the ministry skillswhich he or she possesses. In the National Readiness or Ministry Survey, six character traitswere identied as being most important. Field experience is designed to help develop these

traits:a) Service without regard or acclaim

    b) Personal integrity

    c) Christian example

    d) Responsive unctioning

    e) Positive approach

    ) Acknowledgment o limitations

    2. Teological Integration. In ones ministry it is essential that belie and behavior agree. What onebelieves should be expressed in ones actions. It is the aim o eld experience to help the studentclose the gap between proession and practice. One must be able to explain the theologicalbasis or ones actions.

    3. Spiritual Formation. Te maintenance o good spiritual discipline is essential or Christianwork. During the eld experience activity it is important that the student discover spiritualresources, without which ministry is impossible. For instance, the student must learn to copewith disappointment and ailure. It is important that one learns to trust the Lord when patienceis stretched thin. Habits which promote regular spiritual growth must be developed.
