NAMING STRUCTURE (typical)subdomain.domain.tld/directory

• Domain - the registered domain name of the web site• Subdomain - a domain that is part of a larger domain• tld – the top level domain, uppermost in the hierarchy of

domain names• Directory – a folder to organise content

• All website addresses have a IP record• Worldwide management is by ICANN.org

• Domain - the registered domain name of the web site– This is the “name” of your website– Whatever you wish to choose

• Subdomain - a domain that is part of a larger domain– To express part of your website– “news” in finance.yahoo.com

• tld – the top level domain, uppermost in the hierarchy of domain names– .com is most common and most popular– They initially had meanings but are used interchangeably– Refer to “godaddy.com” for updated list of TLDs– IMPORTANCE: Choosing the right TLD can affect traffic

• Directory – a folder to organise content– Just like a directory on computer’s hard-drive
