LCIF Mission

To support the efforts of Lions clubs worldwide in serving their local

communities and the world community as they carry out essential

humanitarian service projects.

How LCIF Works:

• Individuals, clubs, districts, and partners fund LCIF

• Melvin Jones Fellowships = more than 75%

• LCIF provides funding to support Lions’ efforts

LCIF Quick Facts:

• Since 1968, LCIF has awarded 12,307 grants totaling more than US$918 million

• In 2013-2014, US$46 million given for 538 projects

• Named the #1 non-governmental organization in the world with which to partner

Standard Grants:

• Support/expand Lions humanitarian projects

• Most common grant

• Matching funds up to US$100,000/ minimum US$10,000

SightFirst Grants

• Fight preventable/reversible blindness with sustainable eye care service projects

• No maximum grant limit or specific match required

Core 4 Grants

Up to US$200,000 for projects in 1 of 4 target areas:

• Preserving sight

• Combating disability

• Promoting health

• Serving youth

Emergency Grants

• For immediate relief needs following natural disasters: food, water, clothing, etc.

• Disaster must impact 100+ people

• Up to US$10,000 (depending on scope of disaster)

Major Catastrophe Grants

• Up to US$250,000 for immediate relief or long-term reconstruction projects following major catastrophes

• Awarded at the direction of the International President and the LCIF Chairperson

International Assistance Grants (IAG)

• Small scale partnership projects between clubs or districts in 2 countries (developed country and developing country)

• Matching funds of US$5,000-US$30,000

Designated Grants

• Funds donated to LCIF that are restricted to specific projects

Qualities of a Grant-Worthy Project

• Addresses a humanitarian need• Serves a large population• Cost effective• Beyond local fund-raising capability• Strong Lions’ identity/involvement• Endorsed by district cabinet/multiple

district council

LCIF District Coordinator

• Oversee LCIF development strategies within a district

• Educate Lions about LCIF mission

• Encourage the support of LCIF through all aspects of fundraising within a district

Why Contribute to LCIF?

1) Efficient: Projects evaluated/monitored by technical advisors, external evaluators, LCIF staff

2) Leverage: Grants typically matched with local funding

3) Need: Donations may be less than total of grants
