Session Topic : Localization and Contextualization
Objectives:
At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
1. Gain functional and operational understanding of localization and contextualization in the learning area;
2. Identify ways on how the curriculum may be localized and contextualized in their learning area;
3. Value the importance of adapting to the learners diversity through localization and contextualization in their learning area.

Manila paper
Powerpoint presentation
Metacards (Yellow and Blue)
Broad-tipped Pentel pens (Black & Blue)
Masking Tape

ACTIVITY (20 minutes)
Start the activity by:
Checking the attendance of the participants.
Giving the instructions for the day’s activity (Note: Instructions may be flashed/projected
on the LCD):
Instructions:
One group is assigned quarter one and another for quarter two and so on.
Distribute the CGs to the participants.
Let the group divide the Manila Paper into two columns.
Using the metacards (yellow contextualization and blue localization) let them write down the topics that they localized and contextualized.
Localized Contextualized
Let them post the topics that they localized on the first column and topics that they contextualized on the second column.
When done, let them post their Manila Papers. ANALYSIS (25 minutes)
The SAF will begin the discussion by asking the following questions:
How did you find the activity?
What enabled you to accomplish the task?
What hindered you from accomplishing the task?
What were your guiding principles in accomplishing the task?
Why are we doing this activity?
What were your “AHA” moments?
(Note: SS will record the responses of the participants.)
(Note: SAF shall park the areas for further discussion based on the inputs from the activity.)
ABSTRACTION (40 minutes)
Say: To further enhance our understanding on localization and contextualization, let us
now focus our attention on the video presentation of the resource person and the
powerpoint presentation. Please take note of our areas for further discussion if they
have been answered in the next presentation.
The video presentation of resource person and the power point presentation will highlight the
following:
Legal Bases of Contextualization and Localization
Definition and sample of contextualization and localization
Suggestions on how to localize and/or contextualize teaching and learning
Factors that hinder Localization and Contextualization
APPLICATION (25 minutes)
Say: We shall now prepare for a workshop by applying what we have learned.
Please inspect your kits to contain the following: 2 pcs manila paper
Please divide your manila paper into three columns
Column 1 to be labeled with topics, column 2 to be labeled with what to use and where to get materials, and column three labeled with how to use the materials
Topics that need to be localized or
contextualized
What to use and Where to get the materials
How these materials will be used for teaching
Please give us a thumbs up signal for us to continue or a thumbs down to signify you need help/further instructions.
Please identify the topics from the CG which you feel need to be localized/contextualized.
On the second column please write down the materials to be used and or where to get the materials
Then on the third column please write down how the teachers will use the materials for teaching.
Any questions or clarifications? If none, you may start writing on the manila paper. (start timer)
Let the participants post their work on the board.
Let them do a gallery walk after 30 minutes so that they are aware of what the others will be doing in the other quarters
The SAF will end the activity by asking the following questions:

What are your AHA moments?
