Banner Project Successes to DateAdmissions

• 80% of Fall 2008 applicants elected to apply online

Banner Project Successes to DateAdmissions

• Before Banner Admissions, applicant contact data was spread over multiple databases and it was difficult to track contacts

• Banner Admissions maintains communication plans for all students and tracks where each applicant is in relation to the overall communication plan

Banner Project Successes to DateAdmissions

• As part of these communication plans, Banner Admissions stores stock communications such as letters and emails. Banner Admissions can automatically generate letters and emails, and track which letters and emails were sent to each student.

Banner Project Successes to DateAdmissions

• Banner allows convenient real time reports of Banner data, and can display Banner information in a variety of ways.

• The example to the right shows Admissions Processing Dashboard that displays real time data regarding the status of applications by level of degree, college, and program. This information is conveniently available in real time to the deans and others involved in the admissions process.

Banner Project Successes to DateFinancial Aid

• Before Banner FA, the Financial Aid award process was largely done manually using an arcane and obsolete tool developed “in house”

• Banner FA is configured to automate the Financial Aid award process, saving time and improving the consistency of awards.

• Banner FA provides all award information for each student on one convenient form, allowing counselors convenient access to a students financial aid history

Banner Project Successes to DateFinancial Aid

• Banner FA enables the Financial Aid team to adjust awards to multiple students on one form. (see example on right)

• Banner FA has communication tools that enable the Financial Aid office to automatically send letters or emails, including award letters.

• Banner FA is more flexible than Plus; for example, SHU is able to use Banner FA to automate the awarding of certain types of summer financial aid, which had been difficult in Plus

Banner Project Successes to DateFinancial Aid

• Banner FA is configured to accept file feeds from the Department of Education. Several feeds may be received by the University each day. With the Plus system these files needed to be loaded manually.

• The Financial Aid unit is continuing to make process improvements using Banner. This summer they are using Banner to automate the processing of student loans.

Banner Project Successes to DateRegistration

• Banner Registration provides new services and tools for students to improve the registration process.

• Banner Self Service for Students is integrated into the current student portal, allowing “single sign on” to a number of University services, including Banner services.

• Banner Registration powerful search tools allowing students to search for courses by subject, instructor, time, and location.

Banner Project Successes to DateRegistration

• Banner has improved access to data for the University community.

– For example, now all advisors can view their students’ academic history in convenient and intuitive Web forms through Banner Self Service for Advisors (in Plus this access was limited due to a system limitation of the number of advisors that could be configured and the limited access security in Plus)

• Banner has improved reporting capabilities, enabling academic and administrative offices to develop and run their own reports against Banner data using standard reporting tools (such as Oracle Reports).

• Banner has enabled new capabilities for the Registration system, such as anonymous grading for the Seton Hall University School of Law.

Banner Project Next Steps Finance

• Banner Finance Self Service is a powerful, intuitive, Web-based system that provides budget summaries with the ability to “drill down” into details with the click of your mouse.

• With Finance Self Service, users will perform most financial transactions online, such as initiating or approving requisitions, approving invoices for payment, or transferring funds between accounts they manage.

Banner Project Next Steps Banner Enrollment Management Suite

• Seton Hall University is one on nine campuses that have partnered with Sungard Higher Education to develop an extension of Banner focused on incorporating Customer Relationship Management (CRM) capabilities into Banner (other campus partners include Lehigh, Old Dominion, the University of Illinois, and William and Mary).

• The Banner Enrollment Management Suite will enable Banner to begin developing a complete profile of inquiries, contacts, events, and transactions that will begin with prospective students and that the University will maintain as they move through the University and become alumni.

Banner Project Next Steps Banner Enrollment Management Suite

• Some capabilities of the Banner Enrollment Management Suite include: the ability to develop and track responses to Web-based communications (i.e., “click throughs”); the ability to rank prospective students based on their response to various communications and events; and, the ability to assess the performance of individual communications, events, and interactions.

• The Banner Enrollment Management Suite will be available for beta testing in October 2007 and is scheduled for General Release in January 2008.

Banner Project Next Steps Additional Planned Extensions to Banner

• As part of the Banner Project the University initiated the redesign of the portal and Web site. A&S, Business, and GME have new Web sites that align with the University main site, with Education, Nursing, and SWW under development. The University has implemented new Web Content Management (CommonSpot), Web analytic (CoreMetrics), and Portal (Banner Luminis) systems.

• The installations of the Banner data warehousing system and the Banner document management system are scheduled for July with “go live” scheduled in October. The Banner data warehousing system will give the University tools to produce financial management reports, analyze data trends, and model future scenarios. The Banner document management system will give the University the ability to scan incoming documents such as transcripts for admissions, tax returns for financial aid, and invoices for accounts payable; these documents are then stored as part of the Banner record for the given person, company, or transaction.
