Thibault Denamiel is ranked 1st in the state and 2nd nationally in the French Level 5 exam. Thibault
competed against other native-French speakers.

Academic Decathlon: National Competition Results
The Seton Academic Decathlon team again won first place in the state 3A Division, repeating their
2014 win. This moved them to the National Competition on April 18th, where they came in 6th in the nation,
with Noah Cress winning a silver medal in Economics and Sahil Sandhu winning overall top scorer for the
team. This team is noteworthy in that, except for Noah Cress and Sahil Sandhu, no one had ever competed
before; still, they rose to the challenge. They are all to be commended. The team was composed of
seniors: David Baier, Noah Cress, Manny Estrella, Anthony Giaquinto, Amal Joy, Sahil Sandhu and Nick
Shrum. Zuzanna Latocha, junior, also competed. Coaches Mrs. Trishia Nash and Mr. Todd Decker wish our
seniors well as they travel off to college and invite underclassmen to join AcDec and work towards a "Three-
peat to Nationals 2016!"
ASU Foreign Language Fair (March 2015)
On Wednesday, March 4, nearly 100 Seton students participated in the ASU Foreign Language Fair - an event
attended by 2000 Arizona language students.
Senora Hoff's Spanish students won 1st Place in Novice Impromptu Role Play, 1st Place in Intermediate
Impromptu Role Play and 3rd Place in Novice Impromptu Role Play. (Names forthcoming)
French students Catalina Rojas and Magdalena Yacoub each one 1st Place (they were competing in separate
rooms) for French Poetry/Prose Recitation.
French III students took 3rd place for the play they wrote, Les Vraies Princesses de
Versailles (The Real Princess of Versaille) a parody of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Students
Domynyque Bono, McKenna Conrad, Lauren Drake, Kalei Kuikahi, Varinia Snedeker, Anna Pongracz,
Schuyler Schanberger, Duy Nguyen, Moira Files and Aiden McRobbie-Johnson did a great job writing and
performing this hysterically funny play.
French II students Danielle Peterson, Samia Salahi, Michelle Quezada, and Diep Tran received high praise
from the ASU native-speaker judges for their pronunciation, fluidity and emotion that came through their
recitations.
French I students Charlotte Kenneally, Mallory Gornall, Erin Arimusa and Annie Do also received praise from
the judges.
Ms Chiu's Mandarin students won high acclaim for their performance of the Lion Dance. Senora Salazar's
students participated in the Cultural Mask competition.
In addition to the competitions, students learned about other languages and cultures by participating in mini-
language lessons in a variety of languages, taking Mexican or Korean dance lessons, seeing short foreign
films, having their names written in Chinese, Japanese, Russian, etc and learning about different languages and
cultures by speaking with native speakers.
