Kiosk Mode is the equivalent to the iPad’s “Guided Access” accessibility feature that allows you to lock a student into one app or software—this means that even if the student hits the home button, they cannot leave the app. With Kiosk Mode enabled, the student will not be able to accidentally swipe out of the app or use a different app. Although Kiosk Mode is an equivalent to Guided Access, it is set up much differently. This tutorial will walk you through the steps required to enable Kiosk Mode in Windows 10 on the Surface Pro tablet. Who needs Kiosk Mode? Kiosk Mode can be used for students who are using the Surface Pro as a dedicated device and do not need to switch out of their communication app (e.g. switch to YouTube to watch videos). With Kiosk Mode enabled, students are using their device for communication only. Kiosk Mode is also useful for students who are exploring touch access and frequently swipe out of their communication app. What apps can be used with Kiosk Mode? Kiosk Mode is compatible with most communication and academic apps/software. For the purpose of this tutorial, Kiosk mode will be set up with Snap + Core First communication software. 105 – 1750 West 75th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., Canada V6P 6G2 Phone: 604.261.9450 Fax: 604.261.2256 www.setbc.org
