1 INTENDED USETheQuikReadQuikLink SetupWizard is used for configuring theQuikRead 101Instrument to communicate with the Laboratory or Hospital Information System (LIS/HIS).

2 SUMMARY AND EXPLANATIONQuikRead QuikLink allows transfer of QuikRead assay results coupled with patient identi-ficationtoaremoteLIS/HISusingtheRS232,andtheASTM1381and1394protocols.

The QuikRead QuikLink Setup Wizard uploads a LIS/HIS compatible QuikRead Instru-mentsoftwareversionintotheQuikReadInstrument.Itconfiguresthebarcodereaderand the LIS/HIS communication settings.

Note:After servicing theQuikRead Instrument or theDatalogic bar code reader, thedevicesneedtobereconfiguredtothecustomisedsettings.

4 INSTALLATION4.1 Software and hardware requirementsThe minimum configuration needed for proper software operation is what is required for most Microsoft® Windows® applications:

• A PC with Windows® XP or Windows 7

• Aharddiskwith10Mboffreediskspace• Windows® XP SP 1with128MbofRAM(256recommended)

• Small font size selected on Windows® display properties

• A serial port connection

• Serialcable(nullmodem,DB9-DB9)• QuikRead QuikLink bar code reader (optional)

4.2 Hardware settings for the QuikRead QuikLink Setup WizardThe required hardware connection is described in Figure 1.

4.3 Installing the QuikRead QuikLink Setup Wizard• Remove any existing previous versions of the QuikRead QuikLink Setup Wizard.

• InserttheQuikReadQuikLinkSetupWizardCDintotheCD-ROMdrive.

• Runthesetup.exeprogramfromtheCD-ROM.• Follow the instructions provided on the screen.

• After finishing the installation of theQuikLinkSetupWizard, select theQuikLink Setup Wizard from your computer Start menu or double-click on the QuikLink.exe in the installed directory.

4.4 Removing the QuikRead QuikLink Setup WizardSelect the Uninstall QuikLink Setup Wizard from your computer Start menu or use Add/remove programs in the Control Panel to remove the Wizard.

5 USING THE QUIKREAD QUIKLINK SETUP WIZARD5.1 Password protectionPassword protection prevents unauthorized persons from making critical changes to your QuikReadInstrumentconfigurations.

5.1.1 Creating a passwordWhentheprogramisrunforthefirsttime,theWizardaskstheusertocreateapasswordor disable password protection.

• To create a password, enteryour pass word in the Enter new password field, verify itand click on OK. The password must be 4 to 30 characterslong.

• To disable password protec- tion, select theDisable login control check box and click on OK.

5.1.2 Login userIfpasswordprotectionisenabled,aLoginwindowisshowedateverystartup.

• Enter your password in the Enter password field and click on OK.

• Cancel will shut down the program.

5.1.3 Changing passwordTochangeyourpassword,clickontheChange password hyperlink in the Login window. The Change password window is displayed.

• Enter the current password in the Enter old passwordfield.

• Enter a new password in the Enter new password field,verify it and click on OK. Your password is changed, andthe QuikLink Setup Wizard is started.

• Cancel will shut down the pro-gram.

5.1.4 Forgotten passwordIfyouforgetyourpassword,clickontheForgot your password? hyperlink in the Login window. The Forgot your password window is displayed.

• Contact your QuikRead supplier and ask for the QuikLink Setup Wizard password release key.

• Enter the password release key in the Password release keyfieldandclickonNext. The Enter new password window is displayed.

• Enter your new password in the Enter new passwordfield,verify it and click on Next. Your password is now changed.

• To disable the password protec-tion,selecttheDo not ask me the password anymore check box and click on Next.

• Click on Finish to close this window and to start the Quik-Link Setup Wizard.

5.2 Selecting the setup modeWhentheQuikLinkSetupWizardhasbeenstarted,clickonNext on the Welcome page to enter the Setup mode selection page.

Create LIS/HIS settings – The Quik Read Instrument must have software version 5.0 or newerinstalled for using the LIS/HIS features. To make the QuikRead Instrument LIS/HIS compatible,select the Create LIS/HIS set-tings mode. The newest version of Quik Read Instrument software will be uploaded and the selected LIS/HISsettingsconfigured.

Configure the existing LIS/HIS settings – When the QuikRead Instrument already has aLIS/HIScompatiblesoftwareversion,theusercanconfiguretheinstrument’sLIS/HISsettings without having to upload a new software version.

Change the QuikRead Instrument time settings – To change only the time of the QuikRead Instrument.

QuikLink Setup Wizard maintenance – If a new QuikRead Instrument software version hasbeenreleased,itshouldbeinstalledintheQuikLinkSetupWizardforuploadingitto the QuikRead Instrument. Any changes to bar code reader models are also applied through the wizard maintenance function.

• Click on Next to enter the selected setup mode.

5.3 Uploading QuikRead Instrument softwareNote 1: You must disconnect the bar code reader interface cable during QuikRead software uploading.

Note 2: COM1orCOM2portneedstobeused.

When the Create LIS/HIS settingsmodehas been selected,QuikRead Instrumentsoftware uploading will be performed.

On the QuikRead instrument software uploading – STEP 1 page:

• Select the serial port to which the QuikRead Instrument is connected. See Figure 1 for connection instructions.

• Click on Next to enter the next step.

On the QuikRead instrument software uploading – STEP 2 page:

• Restart the QuikRead Instru-ment if the Wizard requests for it.

• The QuikLink Setup Wizard verifies that theQuikRead In-strument does not already have a newer QuikRead software version than the one installed in the QuikLink Setup Wizard.

• After a successful software versioncheck,makesurethatRead the card is displayed by the QuikRead Instrument LCD. Click on Next to enter the next step.

• Incaseofanyerrors,seetrou-bleshooting.

On the QuikRead Instrument software uploading – STEP 3 page:

• The user is asked to restart the QuikRead Instrument. The instrument must be restarted within20seconds tostartup-loading.

• The progress bar indicates the uploading process. Uploading takes approximately three to four minutes to perform.

• Once uploading is complete,the Wizard automatically enters the QuikRead Instrument soft ware uploading – Step 4 page.

On the QuikRead Instrument software uploading – STEP 4 page:

• Wait until the text Read the card is displayed by the QuikRead InstrumentLCD.Thefirststartafter uploading might take up to two minutes to perform.

• If the bar code reader will be used, connect the bar codereader interface cable behind the QuikRead Instrument.

• Click on Next to start the instru-ment’sLIS/HISconfigurations.

5.4 Configuring the QuikRead Instrument5.4.1 Selecting configuration tasks

• Ensure that the QuikRead Instrument is connected via a serial cable to the computer with the QuikRead QuikLink Setup Wizard installed. See figure1.

• Select the serial port to which the QuikRead Instrument is connected.

• Select the configuration tasksfrom the Settings to be con-figured list.

Time and serial number setup – Sets the serial number and time for the QuikRead Instrument.

QuikLink operation mode setup – Selects the QuikLink operation mode for the QuikRead Instrument.

LIS/HIS connection setup–ConfigurestheserialportsettingsoftheQuikReadInstru-ment to match the LIS/HIS connection settings.

Bar code reader setup –ConfiguresthebarcodereaderandtheQuikReadInstrumentto communicate with each other.

Printer data transfer setup – Sets the QuikRead Instrument to match the printer data transfer speed.

Display timeout setup–Setsthetimeforthedisplayoftheresult,operatorIDandpatientID on the QuikRead Instrument LCD.

LIS/HIS communication protocol tests – Checks that the bar code reader has been successfullyconfiguredandthattheQuikReadInstrumentcreatestheLIS/HISmessagein a correct format. These actions are not sent to the LIS/HIS.

• Oncethenecessaryconfigurationstaskshavebeenselected,clickonNext.

5.4.2 QuikRead Instrument time and serial number setupWhentheQuikReadInstrumenttimeandserialnumbersetuppagehasbeenentered,theQuikRead QuikLink Setup Wizard searches for the current settings from the QuikRead Instrument.

• Restart the QuikRead Instru-ment if the Wizard requests for it.

• After the search process, thecurrent settings are displayed.

• Check the QuikRead Instrument serial number at the back of the instrument. Enter the serial number in the QuikRead Instru-mentserialnumberfield.Onlynumbers are allowed.

• Enter the current time in the Current time field. Time is entered in the 24h format.

• Click on Next to continue.

5.4.3 QuikLink operation mode setupWhen the QuikLink operation mode setuppagehasbeenentered,theQuikReadQuik-Link Setup Wizard searches for the current settings from the QuikRead Instrument.

• Restart the QuikRead Instru-ment if the Wizard requests for it.

• After the search process, thecurrent settings are displayed.

• Select the QuikLink operation mode to be used:

QuikLink mode with bar code reader–Enablespatientandoperatoridentificationwithbarcodes.TheresultscoupledwithidentificationsaretransferredtotheLIS/HISsystemoraprinter.Optionally,atemporaryNON-LISmodeisallowed.Operatoridentificationisanoptionalfeature,whichcanbeenabledordisabled.Themeasuredresultsmustbeaccepted with the bar code reader before they are sent to the LIS/HIS system or printer if the Accept result before sendingoptionisenabled.Iftheresultacceptanceisdisabled,the results are automatically sent to the LIS/HIS system.

QuikLink mode without bar code reader – The results are transferred to the LIS/HIS systemwithoutpatientandoperatoridentification.Whenthismodehasbeenselected,the bar code reader and printer data transfer setup functions are disabled.

NON-QuikLink mode–Restorestheinstrumenttonormalfactorysettings.Inthismode,patientandoperatoridentificationsaredisabledandtheresultsarenotsenttotheLIS/HIS.Whenthismodehasbeenselected,thebarcodereader,LIS/HISconnectionanddisplaytimeout setup functions are disabled.

• Click on Next to continue.

5.4.4 LIS/HIS connection setupWhen the LIS/HIS connection setuppagehasbeenentered,theQuikReadQuikLinkSetup Wizard searches for the current settings from the QuikRead Instrument.

• Restart the QuikRead Instru-ment if the Wizard requests for it.

• After the search process, thecurrent settings are displayed.

• Select the serial port settings to be used for LIS/HIS communi-cation.

• Select the LIS/HIS data output format:

Printer format – The results are sent in a clear text format. Select this option if the re-sults are to be sent to the printer only. Note that the Printer format is enabled only in the QuikLink mode with bar code reader.

ASTM format–TheresultsaresentinanASTMformat.Thisoptionmustbeselectedwhen sending results to the LIS/HIS.

• Click on Next to continue.

Note that LIS/HIS connection setup is disabled in the NON-QuikLink mode.

5.4.5 Bar code reader setup• Restart the QuikRead Instru-

ment if the Wizard requests for it.

• Select the bar code reader mod-el from the Bar code reader model table. Supported bar code families are displayed in the list below.

• Use the bar code reader to read RESTORE DEFAULTS and RS232 bar codes in APPEN DIX 1. Once the bar codes have beenread,selectthecheckboxto enable the Next button.

• Click on Next to continue.

Note that Bar code reader setup is enabled only in the QuikLink mode with bar code reader.

5.4.6 Printer data transfer setupWhen the Printer data transfer setuppagehasbeenentered,theQuikReadQuikLinkSetup Wizard searches for the current settings from the QuikRead Instrument.

• Restart the QuikRead Instru-ment if the Wizard requests for it.

• After the search process, thecurrent settings are displayed.

• Select printer data transfer speed matching the RS232 settings of the printer used.

• Click on Next to continue.

Note that Printer data transfer setup is disabled in the QuikLink mode without bar code reader.

5.4.7 Display timeout setupWhen the QuikLink operation mode setuppagehasbeenentered,theQuikReadQuik-Link Setup Wizard searches for the current settings from the QuikRead Instrument.

• Restart the QuikRead Instru-ment if the Wizard requests for it.

• After the search process, thecurrent settings are displayed.

• Select the display timeout val-ues (maximum 15 seconds).

Result – Indicates the time that the measured result is displayed by the QuikRead Instrument LCD.

Patient ID–IndicatesthetimethatpatientidentificationisdisplayedbytheQuikReadInstrument LCD. Patient ID timeout selection is disabled in the QuikLink mode without bar code reader.

Operator ID–IndicatesthetimethatoperatoridentificationisdisplayedbytheQuikReadInstrument LCD. Operator ID timeout selection is disabled in the QuikLink mode without bar code reader orifoperatoridentificationisdisabled.

• Click on Next to continue.

Note that Display timeout setup is disabled in the NON-QuikLink mode.

5.4.8 Settings reviewBeforethesettingsareconfiguredinthememoryoftheQuikReadInstrument,theyaredisplayed on the Settings review page.

• Ensure that the settings are cor-rect.Ifthereareanyerrors,clickon Back to return to previous pages and make the necessary changes.

• If the bar code reader is going tobeconfigured,thePlay but-tonfortheconfigurationsamplesound is dis played. Click on the button and the Wizard plays the sound sample that you should hear when the bar code reader isconfigured.

NOTE:Thesamplesoundmaybeslightlydifferentfromtheactualconfigurationsound.

• Oncethesettingshavebeenverifiedascorrect,clickonNexttoentertheconfiguration phase.

5.4.9 Configuration phaseOnce the settings havebeen reviewedand verifiedas correct, they are sent to theQuikRead Instrument.

• Restart the QuikRead Instru-ment if the Wizard requests for it.

• The progress bar indicates that Quik Read configuration is in process.

• OnceQuikReadhasbeenconfi-gured,themessageConfigura-tion per formed successfully. Click on Next to continue is displayed.

• Click on Next to continue.

5.4.10 LIS/HIS communication protocol test• Restart the QuikRead Instru-

ment if the Wizard requests for it.

• Click on the Test LIS/HIS com-munication protocol button.

• Use the bar code reader to read within 15 seconds the OK/AC-CEPT bar code in APPENDIX 1,whentheWizardrequestsforit. If thetest issuccessful, themessage LIS/HIS communica-tion protocol test performed successfully is displayed.

• Click on Next to continue.

Note that LIS/HIS communication protocol test is enabled only in the QuikLink mode with bar code reader.

5.4.11 Configuration completeWhenallthenecessaryconfigurationphaseshavebeencarriedout,theConfiguration complete page is displayed.

• Check that the text Read the card is displayed by the LCD of the previously configured QuikRead Instrument. Then,disconnect the instrument.

• Configuration information is saved intoa textfile.Clickonthe Open configuration file buttontoopentheconfigurationfileintoyourdefaulttexteditor.Notethattheconfigurationfilesare located in the QuikLink Setup Wizard installation direc-tory.

• Click on Next to enter the Fin-ish page.

• Ifyouwanttoconfigureanotherinstrument without closing the Wizard, select theConfigure an other instru ment check box and click on Next. The Wizard will return to the Setup mode selection page.

5.5 Finishing the QuikRead QuikLink Setup Wizard

• Click on Finish to close the Wizard.

5.6 QuikLink Setup Wizard maintenanceIftheQuikLinkSetupWizardmaintenancesetupmodewasselected,theMain te nance page of the Wizard will be entered. The following options are now available.

• Install QuikRead Instrument software files in theQuikLinksystem.

• Undotheprevioussoftwarefileinstallation.

• Add a new bar code reader model to the QuikLink system.

• Enable password protection.

5.6.1. Install QuikRead Instrument software files in the QuikLink systemWhena newQuikRead Instrument software version has been released, itmust beinstalled in the QuikLink Setup Wizard before it can be uploaded in the QuikRead Instru-ment.ToinstallanewQuikReadInstrumentsoftwareversion,thefollowingstepshaveto be performed:

• Check that you have received the files quikread+2.a37 and QRCRC.txt and that they are located in the same directory.

• Click on the Install QuikRead Instrument software files into QuikLink system button. The Open file dialog appears.

• Find thequikread+2.a37 file that youhave received, select it and click onOpen. TheWizardwill now install the files.Note: you cannot select currently installed filesfromtheapplicationdirectory.

• The message QuikRead Instrument software files installed successfully into QuikLink system is displayed after successful operation.

• Incaseofanyerrors,seetroubleshooting.

5.6.2 Undo previous software file installationWhenthenewQuikReadInstrumentsoftwarefileswereinstalledtotheWizard,backupfileswerecreatedfromtheprevioussoftwarefilestobeusedforrestoring.

• Click on the Undo previous software file installation button.

• The message QuikRead Instrument software files restored successfully is displayed after successful operation.

• Incaseofanyerrors,seetroubleshooting.

5.6.3 Add a new bar code reader model to the QuikLink systemIf a bar code reader model with suitable bar code families cannot be found in the bar code reader table on the Bar code reader setuppage,contactyourlocalsupplierforanadditionalbarcodereaderconfiguration.Anewconfigurationfilewillbeprovided.

• Click on the Add new bar code reader model to QuikLink system button. The Open file dialog appears.

• FindthebarcodereaderconfigurationXMLfilethatyoureceived,selectit,andclick on Open.

• The Wizard installs the new bar code reader information in the system. The message New bar code reader added is displayed after successful operation.

• Incaseofanyerrors,seetroubleshooting.• Configureyourbarcodereaderwithappropriatesettings.

5.6.4. Enable password protectionIfpasswordprotectioniscurrentlydisabled,theEnable password protection button is displayedonthemaintenancepage.Toenablepasswordprotection,usethefollowingsteps:

• Click on the Enable password protection button. The Create password dialog is displayed.

• Follow the instructions at 5.1.1 Creating password.

6 TROUBLESHOOTING

Error class Error type Possible cause Corrective action

QuikRead Instrument software upload

A message Cannot upload the QuikRead Instrument software from QuikLink. The QuikRead Instrument already has a software that is newer than the one included in the QuikLink Setup Wizard is displayed.

QuikRead Instrument has a newer software than the one included in the QuikLink Setup Wizard.

Uploading is not needed. Select the Configure the existing LIS/HIS settings setup mode.

Contact the QuikRead supplier for the latest version of the QuikLink Setup Wizard.
