Table Architecture

What version of Solid Edge are you using now?

Why the changes to tables?

Prior to V19

Each table had its own architecture.

User interface (UI) and common workflow were duplicated.

It was difficult to make and maintain common enhancements.

V19 user defined table

Became the base architecture for all tables moving forward.

Share UI (properties)

Unify table display

Unify table override capability

Easier to create new table types – Many of the components already exist.



Tables – Progress

All new tables will be based on the new table architecture.

V19 – User Defined Table and Bend Table

V20 – FOP (Family of Parts) Table

ST5 – Nailboard Connector table and Conductor table

ST2 – Parts List – Multi-release effort

Parts list was at a dead end under old architecture.

Was difficult to make major enhancements

Major driving force for architectural changes

ST?? – Hole Table and Revision Table

Hole table will be migrated to the new table architecture.

Table – Styles

Prior to V19 all table display properties were part of the table properties and table saved settings.

Good

Everything for each table was in one place.

Bad

No shared display control between tables or table types

Table Styles controls the general display of tables.

Work like dimension styles.

Are template based

May be shared among table types

One table style fits all tables.

Parts List and Bend Table may share the same table style for common display control.

Different table types may have unique table styles.

Parts List may be different than Bend Table.

Create different styles for the different table types.

Create many styles for each table type (different suppliers).

Think of this like standards for dimensions (ISO, ANSI, DIN, etc.)

Don’t forget Style Organizer to manage styles across documents.

Table Styles and Saved Settings

Table styles do not maintain the properties of the table.

The properties of a table are still maintained in saved settings.

The overall control must be done with both Table Styles and Saved Settings.

Gives greater flexibility

Consistent with other objects (callout, etc.) that use styles and saved settings.

Important Note!!!

Parts List - Saved Settings prior to ST2 may not give the same results in ST2 and after.

The Parts List properties must be updated and saved back to saved settings again.

There are too many new properties to rely on the old Saved Settings.

Title Text Style – Default for all titles

Local overrides – Override the Text Style

Saved in Saved Settings

Don’t forget multiple titles.

Predefine multiple titles in Saved Settings.

Set title to Header or Footer

Hide title without deleting

Set ‘Position’ – Neither

Displays the select property text dialog.

Can be saved to Saved Settings.

Locate the Property to add.

Click the Add Column button.

Column is added to the top list.

General Tab

Fill the end of the table with blank rows

Ensures a new page will be the size specified.

Pads blank space as needed.

Wrap table data cells to new row

Breaks single row into multiple rows for a single item.

Use when table rows are like rows on a sheet of paper and cannot change.

Conclusions

Much work has been done on tables over the last few releases.

Many customer requests have been put into Parts List.

Always - Still have work to do.
