Editor’s Letter:

Happy Mother’s Day to all the lovely ladies in Seven Oaks who have given so

much of themselves to the children they have brought into the world. I wish you a day and life filled with love.

There were many wonderful mothers I met this past month

who shared stories, pictures and news with us. It is very rewarding to meet so many people through the newsletter each month. I look forward to meeting and get-ting to know more of you. For next month, think about sending Father’s Day stories and pictures.

We are working on updating our website and our facebook page. Soon, all pictures that were not able to fit in print will be online. We will also be adding videos from different community events. So, send us your information and share it with your neighbors. See you next month!

Summer break is just around the corner and that means our Seven Oaks clubhouse is about to get into it’s summer routine. There

are over 3,700 people who reside in Seven Oaks according to the preliminary census data, and as we know there is only one clubhouse.

We have some of the best amenities in the Wesley Chapel area, and because of that, many who do not reside in Seven Oaks or do not pay assessments often try to gain access into our pool area and amenities, and make our already busy pools overcrowded. Also, we have found that in some cases, those who do not reside here, do not take as much pride in keeping up the clubhouse during their usage.

With that all in mind, please be patient this summer as the clubhouse staff will be working to ensure that space at our pools are saved for those who actually pay to live here.

ClubHouSe ACCeSS CArdS

One way to make this much easier is to always remember your access card. Many residents, myself included, might think that the staff will remember you and you won’t need to bring it, but due to the hundreds or people per day that our staff sees, they have been instructed to check cards upon each entry.

GueStS At tHe PoolGuests are a tricky topic. Everyone would like to be able to bring as many friends and family from out of Seven Oaks as they please, and the CDD would like nothing more than to help you with that, however there have to be certain restrictions on this to ensure fairness to all residents. There is currently a limit of 5 guests per household at the pool area. Also, residents must always accompany their guests unless prior arrangements are made. Exceptions, if needed, can be discussed with our Clubhouse Manager, Theresa, or our staff Supervisor, Bryan, and will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Please call up or stop by in advance as things get very busy on summer days.

borrowInG CArdSResidents should not pass their access cards off to friends, family or children. There are pictures on the cards so our staff and management can monitor for fraudulent use. If the person holding the card is not the person pictured, they be referred to management. Believe it or not, the staff has encountered countless times when someone brings up an access card and says this is my brother, sister, wife, etc, when come to find out they are not related, and are just a friend from a close by neighborhood, or found the card and are using it as their own.

Get your teenS An ACCeSS CArd!

If you have children that are 15 or older that reside in your household the clubhouse Theresa or Bryan will be more than happy to issue them their own card for a nominal fee of $15.00. Make sure you contact the clubhouse at 813-907-7987 to set up a time to come in and do this before summer gets here.

Cdd budGet uPdAteAt our most recent meeting which occured on Wednesday the 13h of May, the board had our first budget workshop for our upcoming years budget. We created a list of things we think would be good improvements, as well as things that we need to budget for that are coming up in the near future and need to be done. This is a time when the we could use your feedback. Our contact info is posted on MySevenOaks.com/CDD and I invite you all to send us your ideas, comments and concerns on improvements, and CDD fee assesments, etc.

SeCurIty CAmerASAs you may know our CDD has a project to install security cameras and license plate cameras on all sub-division entrances and gates in the near future. This project is in the final stages of review, and should be voted on in our May meeting. For questions, please email me at [email protected].

SPeedInG ISSueSThe CDD is hearing many complaints about unsafe driving issues and will be pursuing more options to help prevent speeding and protect the families that frequent our roads and sidewalks. Again if this is something you care to comment on, please email me.

StAy uP to dAteKeep on checking MySevenOaks.com (be sure you sign up) for the latest news and announcements, as we will be posting info about upcoming improvement projects that may affect traffic and streets in Seven Oaks.

Thanks, and until next time..Andy Denbo

Seven OaksPondS exPlAIned

In addition to being aesthetically pleasing and providing landscape diversity, the storm-water ponds in Seven Oaks serve a specific environ-mental protection function. They are designed (according to requirements of the Southwest Florida Water Management District) to minimize the amount of runoff from directly entering streams and wetlands. Such runoff may carry oil and heavy metals residues from paved surfaces, nutrients from yard clippings, pet droppings, or lawn and garden fertilizer, as well as herbicides and pesticides used for weed and insect control. Runoff is intentionally routed into storm-water ponds to allow these materials to be assimilated and retained there, instead of in natural aquatic systems.

Since the nutrients that are directed to storm-water ponds are equally effective at stimulating the growth of algae and aquatic plants as they are at growing grass and landscape plants (and sometimes even more effective), algae “blooms” sometimes occur and may spread across a pond’s surface, causing a film or “scum” to grow. Many of our common algae are among the fastest growing organisms in the world, so completely control-ling their growth without harming the desirable organisms in and around a storm-water pond can be very difficult. The lake management firm retained by Seven Oaks CDD treats our ponds on a regular basis, but the rapid growth rates of algae means that blooms can still occur between treatments, especially during periods of unusually warm temperatures, low water levels, or frequent rain events. Even with treatments organisms may take some time to die and disappear.

Some of our ponds have been planted with aquatic vegetation, or have been allowed to naturally develop beneficial wetland plants around the edges and in shallow areas. These plants do not typically grow aggressively and are pleasant in appearance. Equally important is the fact that they act as “filters” for water in the ponds, helping to remove potential pollutants. Thus, most of the plants growing around the edges of our ponds are a very desirable feature (and the few species that are not desirable are controlled by our lake man-agement firm on their regular visits).

As residents, we can assist in the management of our ponds by trying to keep driveways and sidewalks free of materials that could wash into the storm drains, keeping grass clippings, pet droppings, and fertilizer from going in the ponds, and by allowing the vegetation around the perimeter of the ponds to remain in place to provide additional wildlife habitat and water pollution prevention.

Greetings neighbors! ‘’We’re looking for a few good men (and women)’’! Sound familiar? Volunteering has

become near and dear to me and I hope this article will motivate you to volunteer within the Seven Oaks community. Enjoy!

In general terms, volunteering is the practice of people working on behalf of others or a particular cause without payment for their time and services. Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity, intended to promote good or improve human quality of life, but people also volunteer for their own skill development, to network, to make contacts for possible employment, to have fun, and a variety of other reasons that could be considered self-serving.

Volunteering takes many forms and is performed by a wide range of people. Many volunteers are specifically trained in the areas they work in, such as medicine, educa-tion, or emergency rescue. Other volunteers serve on an as-needed basis, such as in response to a natural disaster or for a beach-cleanup. The volunteers I am referring to in this article are community volunteers.

Community volunteering refers to volun-teers who work to improve community en-hancement efforts in the area in which they live. Neighborhood, church, and community groups play a key role in building strong towns and cities from the neighborhoods up. Supporting these understaffed groups (like the Residents Council, SOPOA, the CDD and the Security Patrol), can enable us to succeed in a variety of areas, which con-nect social, environmental, and economic boundaries. Volunteers can conduct a wide range of activities. Some of us as you know, choose to support a variety of volunteers groups within Seven Oaks to assure the community’s best interest.

I know, it’s easy to feel disconnected, as many parents and families within our com-munity juggle work, school, kids, and activ-ity after activity. But some simple things can

bring a community and as a result, families closer — playing a game, going for a walk or a bike ride, cooking a meal together or participating in community based activi-ties. One of the most satisfying, fun, and productive ways to unite is volunteering for community service projects. Volunteerism also sets a good example for your kids and teens and truly helps our community. Here are several reasons why you should get involved:

It feels good. The satisfaction and pride that come from helping others are important reasons to volunteer. When you commit your time and effort to an organization or a cause you feel strongly about, the feeling of fulfillment can be endless.

It strengthens our community. Organizations and agencies that use volunteers are provid-ing important services at low or no cost to those who need them. When a community is doing well as a whole, its individuals are better off, too.

It can strengthen your family. Volunteerism is a great way for families to have fun and feel closer. But many people say they don’t have the time to volunteer after fulfilling work and family commitments. If that’s the case, try rethinking some of your free time as a family. You could select just one or two projects a year and make them an individual or a family tradition. Lastly, volunteering within the Seven Oaks community for the past several years has taught me several life-long lessons:

A sense of responsibility. By volunteering, adults as well as teens learn what it means to make and keep a commitment. They learn how to be on time for a job, do their best, and be proud of the results. But they also learn that, ultimately, we’re all responsible for the well-being of our community.

That one person can make a difference. A wonderful, empowering message for adults, teens and kids is that they’re important

enough to have an impact on someone or something else.

The benefit of sacrifice. For example, by giving up a toy to a less fortunate child, bringing canned food and clothes to the clubhouse for the homeless, a teen or a child learns that sometimes it’s good to sacrifice. Cutting back on recreation time to help clean up the clubhouse or a community park tells everyone that there are important things besides ourselves and our immediate needs.

Tolerance. Working in community service can bring everyone within our community in touch with people of different backgrounds, abilities, ethnicities, ages, and education and income levels. They’ll learn that even the most diverse individuals can be united by common values.

Please remember that we live in a mobile society. New people move in and out of our community frequently. Even if the long-time residents are knowledgeable about the resources of their community, newcomers can’t be expected to get information from thin air. Also, people form opinions based on their own experiences. So if someone has been in contact with any of our community’s committees for a specific purpose, it is likely the person did not get an overview of the full scope of the services available.

Look forward to seeing more of you par-ticipate and volunteer within the Residents Council. Your volunteering will definitely help others and may help you, too. I, as well as all the current volunteers within all of the Seven Oaks committees, appreciate your continued support and consideration.

Standard Pacific Homes is back in Seven Oaks! We have previously built over 300 homes in here but sold out in 2010. A

new opportunity presented itself in the Crosswinds village at the corner of Ancient Oaks Blvd. and Ea-gleston Blvd. and we opened our new model there on March 19. We only have 37 available home sites and in the first 4 weeks of being open we have already sold 5 new homes! One of these home owners (and another one close to moving forward) currently live in Seven Oaks and do not want to leave this community. All of the other new home owners are from Realtors who rave about Seven Oaks or referrals from friends and family members already living here.

Over 50 current home owners have stopped by our new model home to say hello, introduce themselves, and to see what new homes are being built by Standard Pacific. I am quickly becoming a raving fan of “our” community and look forward to one day moving my family here as well. v

the Discovery Point Child Development Center has been proud to be part of

our Seven Oaks community for 5 years. It has been our pleasure to play such an important role in providing care and education to all of our children. We have a team of dedicated professionals whose goals are simple. That is to provide care to our children rooted in what we call the “Three A’s”. Attention, Affection and Approval are cor-nerstones of what has made us the loving and nurturing center that our families have come to admire, trust and respect. As an educa-tional based Child Care Center, we incorporate fun, love and happiness into our daily routines.

We provide care for infants as young as 6 weeks old and offer before and after care for kids up to 12 years old. Our programs feature hot lunches and daily snacks included in our weekly tuition. In addition to our infant and preschool classes, we are pleased to be one of the areas most sought after VPK programs, offering this free program to any child who turns 4 years old by September 1st of that school year. In our 5 short years of being open we have received a tremendous number of referrals

from current and past parents as well as the enrollment of siblings into our various programs. We are proud of these recommendations and are committed to always provide the level of excellence, care and love that Discovery Point Seven Oaks has always been known for.

In 2007, the Discovery Point Seven Oaks was named the winner of the President’s Award as the top rated Discovery Point in the nation. To be recognized from the National Headquarters in Atlanta, GA as the “best of the best” in our first full year of operation was an accomplishment that we will take pride in forever.

As the owners of this family owned business, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the hundreds of families who have allowed us the privilege to care for your children. I hope that all of you know that we are genuinely proud and honored to be an important part of your lives. All of your kids are “our” kids too. We love them truly and again thank you for being part of our lives.

For those of you we have not met yet, please feel free to stop by and take a tour of our school or contact us at 994-2700. v

bangs and Blondes LLC Salon and Spa opened in Wesley Chapel last July. Nine months later, as many small businesses are

being forced to close due to an economy struggling to recover, this new salon is thriving, even despite the extensive construction project along State Road 54.

The salon is housed in a structure that used to be the old Wesley Chapel post office. The building was relocated, has undergone extensive renovation, and now offers an upscale salon atmosphere with a down home appeal. It is located at 5701 Gray Road, Wesley Chapel, 33543, just off of State Road 54, opposite Van Dine Avenue. Owners Joe and Arlene Andrews of Wesley Chapel seem to have a recipe for success. They offer clients outstanding professional service at a value price point.

“Many of our clients are teachers, nurses, stay at home moms, and students. Many of the families we serve have had at least one member of their family

dealing with job loss over the past two years. We get this. They can’t afford high salon prices, but they still want quality and experience. They are searching for an alternative. We are it.”, says Arlene. “And we are not just a salon. I really believe God uses this place to bring people together to help each other. Many days Ginny and I will be doing hair and chatting with clients about certain struggles they may be facing, or missions they have adopted. We have witnessed so many people reaching out to help each other. Sometimes the salon facilitates these missions by including the information in our monthly newsletter. So it surely is not just about the hair! Bangs and Blondes LLC clients are beautiful on the inside too! They rock!”

Arlene Andrews has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1977. She recently completed her first motion picture assignment for the principal cast of the

Christian film “For Such A Time”, by Tender Shoot Films. Stylist Ginny Jones has twelve years experience as both a stylist and salon manager. When asked what they predict will be hot this coming season, the girls both agree. “Keratin is the buzz word for this upcoming season. Women with long hair will be seeking keratin treatments to control frizz. And of course, hair extensions. Reality shows have increased the demand for long hair. It’s everywhere!”

The salon offers a full range of services including all phases of hair, skin and nail care. Visit the web site at www.bangsandblondes.com for more information or call (813) 994-2337 for an appointment. Consultations are free. v

GSWCF summer camps are open to all girls entering grades 1 – 12, whether or not they’re Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts of West Central Florida (GSWCF) invites all girls entering grades 1 – 12 to have fun at camp this summer! Day and overnight camps are offered throughout June and July at all five of the council’s camp properties – there’s something for every girl! GSWCF summer camps are open to all girls entering grades 1 – 12, whether or not they’re Girl Scouts. Non-Girl Scouts who register for summer camp will pay a one-time fee of $12 to join the organization. GSWCF camp properties are: Camp Dorothy Thomas (Riverview), Camp Indian Echo (Hudson), Camp Scoutcrest (Odessa), Camp Wai Lani (Palm Harbor) and Camp Wildwood (Wildwood). Of these, Camps Dorothy Thomas, Scoutcrest and Wildwood are American Camp Association accredited.

Games, dance, the arts, horseback riding, water skiing, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and swimming are among the many activities offered. Can’t decide on just one? Not quite sure about sleeping away for a week? Girls can customize their camp experiences. All sessions include sports, nature exploration, and arts and crafts for a well-rounded camp experience. “Girl Scout summer camp programs encompass a rich history of nearly 100 years of providing outdoor experiences for girls,” said Kim Jowell, CEO, GSWCF. “Camp is a place where girls learn to live and work together, make new friends, practice leadership skills and, of course, have fun!” Visit gswcf.org to view the Girl Scout Summer Camp guide, and register for summer camp starting April 2! For more information on how to join, volunteer, reconnect or donate to Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, visit gswcf.org or call 800-881-4475. v

SeVen oAKS elementAry SCHoolThe Seven Oaks Elementary School Parent Teacher Association (“PTA”) presented a gift to the Seven Oaks Elementary School student body on Thursday April 21.

With their profits over $20,000 from the many fundraisers that were held throughout the 2010-2011 school year the Seven Oaks Elementary School (“SOES”) PTA decided that they would purchase an age appropri-ate book for all 937 students that at-tend Seven Oaks Elementary School. But it doesn’t stop there. The $4,490 purchase was made through the Scholastic Book Fair that was held at the school, where 25% of the sales go back to Seven Oaks Elementary School and will be used to purchase equipment for the Media Center.
