Even in spiritual life… “adulting” is hard!

If you spend any time at all around youth or on social media, you’ve probably become acquainted with the term “adulting.” Whenever you choose to do the more responsible, potentially less fun or simple thing, you too may be adulting whether you know it or not! Regardless of your chronological age, the fact that you’re reading this bulletin suggests you’ve made the adult choice to learn about what’s going on at St. Clare of Assisi Church. You’ve chosen to make coming to Mass or stopping in to pray a priority, too—not always the easy option in a world packed with busyness and weekend distractions. All our registered parish households soon will receive the lat-est edition of the Eye Opener newsletter as well as a packet of information for our annual tithing drive. In them, we’ll be ad-dressing a hard yet vital adulting subject: Working together to pay our parish family’s bills. Your committed regular tithing is what St. Clare relies on to meet our parish’s annual operat-ing budget needs. As faithful stewards of the blessings God has given us— blessings of time, talent and treasure—we are called to prayerfully consider what we give back to His Church. Scrip-ture teaches us that our first fruits should be offered in thanksgiving to God, not the leftovers. This is an act of spir-itual “adulting” that is both challenging and rewarding. With grateful acknowledgement for all the support so many of you already provide for our parish family, we urge you to watch for these mailings and learn about the budgetary needs St. Clare must address in the coming year.

Vocation Corner

“I learned about my faith at a young age and attended Catholic schools. I worked in the Philippines and China and it was there that I sensed a calling to the priesthood entrusting my vocation to God. I made my consecration to Jesus through Mary as taught by St. Louis de Montfort. I joined a religious order on August 15, the feast of the Assumption of Mary.” Father Kenneth Lao, C.C. Associate Pastor, St. Timothy Catholic Church, North York, Ontario; Columbia, Nov. 2015, pg. 34

THE DAUGHTERS OF ST. PAUL PAULINE BOOKS & MEDIA

Will be visiting St. Clare Church on Saturday & Sunday, February 18/19.

The Daughters of St. Paul are religious Sisters whose mission is to communicate the Gospel

with the media, in the spirit of St. Paul. Their publications of Catholic books, music and DVDs—both for children and adults— will be

available for perusal and purchase after the weekend Masses. Books for Lent will be

available. For more information or special requests, call Sr. Laura at 314-965-3512.

When India’s Malaguni River floods, the Singh family cannot get to the nearest market to buy and sell food, and their rice fields

fail, placing the family at risk of hunger. That’s why CRS is helping the Singh family prepare for flooding with new farming tools and techniques. The family is healthier—and prepared to face the next flood.

Did You Know...Our sister parish runs a medical clinic? Through infrastructure improvements over the last several years, they have been able to accommodate more patients with a greater variety of needs. They even have their own laboratory now for doing a variety of tests. Although their daily operations are revenue neutral (they bring in as much as they spend), some of the funds we donate have helped with their improvements and expansion. They also have a sliding payment scale for their ser-vices so that those with less can still receive medical treatment. It was truly an eye opening experience to visit the clinic and see how many people thy are able to help.

Respect Life Corner There are many ways to share the pro-life message. A good beginning is to become knowledgeable about the growth and development of an embryo.

An embryo’s heart begins to beat between 18-24 days after conception. An embryo’s brain waves can be detected six weeks after conception. Based on the development of the nervous system, a fetus is likely able to feel pain as early as eight weeks after conception. At 9 weeks after conception, a fetus is able to bend its fingers around an object in its hand, and suck its thumb. All essential organs have begun to form.
