A fter Jesus had been taken up to heaven the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey away. When they entered the city they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. The Word of the Lord. J esus raised his eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you, just as you gave him authority over all people, so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave him. Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ. I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began. “I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything you gave me is from you, because the words you gave to me I have given to them, and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but or the ones you have given me, because they are yours, and everything of mine is yours and everything of yours is mine, and I have been glorified in them. And now I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, while I am coming to you.” The Gospel of the Lord. MAY 24, 2020 REFLECTION ON THE LITURGY OF THE WORD T he Seventh Sunday of Easter sets the tone for next week's Pentecost Sunday as we read in Acts of the Apostles of Mary, the Apostles and other followers waiting in the upper room after the Ascension. In John's Gospel, Jesus prays to the Father, claiming us as his own: “I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me”. The first reading from the Acts of the Apostles follows the preaching and ministry of Paul. We can feel his intensity as he urges the Ephesians to follow his example in living the faith "I served the Lord with all humility and with the tears and trials that came to me..." Paul returns to Jerusalem to face persecution but remains under house arrest, teaching and meeting with fol- lowers. The Gospel continues from John. Jesus warns his disciples that they will be scattered and says they will find trouble in the world but assures them he has conquered the world. Jesus' pray- er reflects the passionate, inseparable nature between him and his Father. " I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. I speak this in the world so that they may share my joy completely. Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me." Jesus challenges Peter three times to "feed my sheep" as the Easter Season weekday readings come to a close as John's Gospel concludes on Sat- urday. These poetic readings end: " There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written." Next weekend, Pentecost Sunday, the readings and the whole Church celebrate the coming and ongoing presence of the Holy Spirit among us. Jesus breathes on his Apostles and tells them, "Receive the Holy Spirit” and says to them ”Peace be with you". Jesus fills them with wis- dom, courage & understanding (the Gifts of the Spirit). REFLECTION ON THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

T he Seventh Sunday of Easter sets the tone for next week's Pentecost Sunday as we read in Acts of the Apostles of Mary, the Apostles and other followers waiting in the upper room after the

Ascension. In John's Gospel, Jesus prays to the Father, claiming us as his own: “I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me”. The first reading from the Acts of the Apostles follows the preaching and ministry of Paul. We can feel his intensity as he urges the Ephesians to follow his example in living the faith "I served the Lord with all humility and with the tears and trials that came to me..." Paul returns to Jerusalem to face persecution but remains under house arrest, teaching and meeting with fol-lowers. The Gospel continues from John. Jesus warns his disciples that they will be scattered and says they will find trouble in the world but assures them he has conquered the world. Jesus' pray-er reflects the passionate, inseparable nature between him and his Father. "I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. I speak this in the world so that they may share my joy completely. Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me." Jesus challenges Peter three times to "feed my sheep" as the Easter Season weekday readings come to a close as John's Gospel concludes on Sat-urday. These poetic readings end: "There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written." ST ANTHONY NOVENA ELEVENTH TUESDAY MARY — OUR MOTHER IN FAITH

Reading 1: The Prophet Zechariah (2:14-17) Sing and rejoice, O Daughter Zion! I am coming to dwell among you, says the Lord. Many nations shall join themselves to the Lord on that day, and they shall be his people, and he will dwell among you, and you shall see that the Lord of Hosts has sent me to you. The Lord will possess Judah as his portion of the holy land. Silence, all people, in the presence of the Lord, for he stirs forth from his holy dwelling. The Word of the Lord.

Reading 2: From the Sermons of St. Anthony The wise man says that the sun is a thing of wonder, the work of the Most High. The Virgin Mary is an even greater work of wonder, for she was the bridal chamber wherein the Son of God took flesh, the sanctuary of the Spirit, the dwelling of the Most Blessed Trinity. O work, indeed of wonder, for the Son of God made her more beautiful than all other creatures and holier than all the saints and then in her took on human form and became one of us.

MEMORIAL DAY PRAYER

D ear Heavenly Father, as we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, we think of how they have followed in the footsteps of your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Please hold our service men and women in your strong arms. Cover them with your sheltering grace and

presence as they stand in defense for our freedom and protection. We also remember the families of our troops and ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes with your peace. Send your Holy Spirit upon them for the strength to fill their lives. May the members of our armed forces be filled with courage to face each day and may they trust in the Lord's mighty power to accomplish each task. Let our military brothers and sisters feel our love and support this Memorial Day and every day. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our Risen Ascended Lord. Amen.
