.aarsleff.com Sewer renewal in framework agreement Major sewer pipes in Aarhus Aarsleff has carried out a major sewer renew- al project in the northern part of Aarhus as well as in the central city. The work is part of a four-year framework agreement between City of Aarhus and a group of consulting engi- neering companies and engineering contrac- tors. The project started in 2006 and is carried out as a framework agreement in accordance with the principles of partnering. Challenging work As part of the project, we executed five kilo- metres of pipe work, including big sewer pipes of up to DN1800 mm, and subsequently rein- stated road stretches. Our work in the city was carried out using complex methods of execution. For instance, we worked in high- traffic areas, including 270 metres of tunnel- ling under the ring road at Aarhus University Hospital and 60 metres under the railway line at the coast road. We have executed con- struction pits with secant pile walls as well as sheet pile walls, carried out groundwater low- ering, constructed underground pumping sta- tion and several manhole structures as well as marine construction work for a big submerged outfall led through the quay. During the entire construction period, we have worked well together with our depart- ment Pipe Technologies who had an inde- pendent framework agreement with City of Aarhus comprising No-Dig pipe renewal. We were often working together to find the best and least expensive method. We also worked closely with the consulting engineer and the client in order to develop innovative work methods and processes and thereby stream- line the sewer renewal work. Optimal flow and cost savings The essence of partnering as form of coop- eration is that all parties participate from the start. There is equal access to all information and equal opportunities for influence and own- ership for all parties. The framework agree- ment therefore allows long-term planning and creation of long-term working relationship between the parties. This helps create an opti- mal flow of the construction work – and there- by cost savings. Left: Sewer renewal at the busy coast road in Aarhus.
