1 SFO SFO CONNECT CONNECT TENANT PRINT EDITION MAY 8, 2020 #SFOStrong GABRIEL PHUNG Gabriel Phung works in the Airport’s Aviation Museum and Library. He is deployed as a Disaster Service Work- er and assigned to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. I have been activated and deployed as a Disaster Service Worker and assigned to Zuckerberg San Fran- cisco General Hospital. I’m currently working as a staff screener during the swing shift, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. My job is to screen the frontline employees and hospital workers at the beginning of their shift and when they enter the hospital. I staff 1 of 5 booths setup in the hospital lobby. Everyone coming in is issued a new mask, so you can image they go through a thousand a day easily. We ask them a series of questions and take their temperature. If they’re all clear, then they get a color-coded sticker good for that day only (placed on their badge). There is an option for the hospi- tal staff to get cleared online, but they still need to show us an email with the clearance date before we take their temperature. The Airport has over 50 employees who have been deployed as Disaster Service Workers (DSW) for the City of San Francisco. In addition to their dedication and service to the community in this time of crisis, many are choosing to share their experiences of working at various DSW sites throughout the City. It’s moderately busy but when there’s a shift change (there’s multiple) it can get very busy. There’s always a registered nurse (RN) and a sheriff present just in case we run into any issues or problems. New public health directives are issued almost daily, so it keeps things interesting. Understandably, my wife had reservations about me taking on this assignment at a hospital. We have two young daughters at home and her sister recovered from COVID-19. I told her this is my duty and what I signed up for. I’m helping to keep the frontline workers safe so they can keep all of us safe. -Gabe

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR RE: COVID-19: CITYTESTSFThank you for your hard work and dedication during this challenging time. Our City and communities are being well served during this public health crisis because of you. Your health and welfare are a top priority.

To achieve the City’s goal of universal access to COVID-19 testing, testing is continually expanding, based on where the need is greatest and the avail-ability of resources. The Department of Public Health (DPH) has stabilized the supply chain for testing, and it is now available for all essential workers regardless of symptoms or exposure.

As of May 4, any essential or frontline worker can now be tested, regardless of symptoms or expo-sure. You can decide when you want to test, but it is important to test immediately when you feel ill, have symptoms, or if you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19.

This test is easy, fast, and free. Results are available within 24 to 48 hours.

Additionally, I want to share that DPH has expended testing for anyone living in San Francisco who either has one symptom or who has been exposed to a COVID-19 positive person.

This test detects the virus at the time of the test only. It does not test for immunity or if you had the virus in the past. If you test negative for the virus, you must remain cautious because you can still get the virus. If you have already been tested and received a negative result but still have symptoms or believe you have been exposed, please get retested. It is possible you contracted the virus after being tested.

To make an appointment, please visit: sf.gov/city-testsf or call 311.

Your health and the health of your loved ones and our community is best protected when you test early if you think that you have been exposed or believe you have symptoms. Please test to avoid community spread of the virus through asymptomatic contacts.

Thank you for all that you do for our City, Airport, and its residents.
