Susanne Schaffert, Ph.D., has been President of Novartis Oncology since January 1, 2019. She is a member of the Executive Committee of Novartis.

Ms. Schaffert was appointed Chairperson and President of Advanced Accelerator Applications when it was acquired by Novartis in January 2018. She joined Novartis more than 20 years ago and served as General Manager of Europe for Novartis Oncology from 2012 to 2018. Larson previously served as senior vice president (SVP) of Human Resources for the company’s Interventional segment, its Greater Asia region and innovation-related functions including Research & Development and BD Medical. She also served as CHRO for C. R. Bard, Inc., a leading medical technology company in the fields of vascular, urology and surgical specialty products, which was acquired by BD in 2017.

Larson started her career at Baxter International, a surgical innovation company where she held multiple positions of increasing responsibility over her 16-year tenure. Most recently, she served as SVP of Human Resources and provided strategic leadership to Baxter’s $10 billion Medical Products segment, in addition to its Global Manufacturing and Research and Development functions.

Michele Fox, Vice President, Clinical and Medical Affairs Global Strategic ProjectsMichelle joined Teleflex in December 2013 as the Senior Director of Clinical Affairs through the acquisition of Vidacare. She has more than ten years of medical device management experience. During her time at Vidacare, Michelle led many successful growth initiatives and acted as the spokesperson for the company resulting in practice change through the release of new guidelines and policies, collaboration in education, clinical research, professional development and advocacy.

She has been instrumental in strengthening the organization through the formation of our global Clinical and Medical Affairs division. Michelle and her leadership team set the clinical vision and strategy for the organization. She provides leadership to Medical Affairs which provides medical guidance for the Company’s global product portfolio and assures compliance with global regulatory, legislative and medical requirements. Under her leadership, Varian’s CSS organization was rated the #1 service provider among linear accelerator manufacturers every year by IMV, Ltd., an independent healthcare market research firm that analyzes service trends. Ms. Kennedy joined Varian in 1997 as marketing manager for delivery systems. She was promoted to manage Oncology Systems marketing in 2001 and the engineering function in 2002.

In 2006, Ms. Kennedy was selected by the YWCA of Santa Clara Valley, California, as one of that year’s “Tribute to Women and Industry” (TWIN) honorees for her outstanding achievements as a corporate executive. In 2017, she achieved the Silicon Valley Business Journal Women of Influence award, which honors women who are having a major impact as executives, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

Vy H. Tran, J.D., Chief Compliance Officer

Vy H. Tran has been with Varian Medical Systems since 1998. While at Varian she has held numerous positions in regulatory affairs and compliance. As a regulatory affairs manager, she was responsible for managing the company’s process for obtaining 510(k) clearances from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for products sold in the United States. Subsequently, as corporate director of regulatory affairs, she managed the global regulatory affairs product submissions process, corporate internal audits and document control. Over the past several years, she has taken on the additional responsibility of becoming the anti-kickback anti-fraud (AKAF) compliance officer and the data privacy officer, establishing and leading the compliance program for both areas.

In her current role as the vice president of regulatory affairs and quality assurance, Tran oversees quality systems compliance, quality assurance, internal audits, document control, post market surveillance reporting and quality systems training for all of the company’s manufacturing sites worldwide. She is also responsible for the regulatory clearance and approval strategies to ensure that new products are accessible to a global market in a timely manner.

Caren Mason, President and Chief Executive OfficerMs. Mason was elected to STAAR’s Board of Directors at its 2014 Annual Meeting, and she has served as STAAR’s Chief Executive Officer since March 1, 2015. From 2010 to 2012, Ms. Mason served as Chief Executive Officer of Verinata Health, Inc. (f/k/a Artemis Health, Inc.), a provider of non invasive prenatal genetic sequencing tests for the early identification of fetal chromosomal abnormalities. She served as President and Chief Executive Officer for MiraMedica, Inc., an early phase start up developing computer aided detection software for breast cancer, from 2002 through 2003. Prior to her tenure with MiraMedica, Ms. Mason served as Chief Executive Officer of eMed Technologies of Lexington, Massachusetts, a teleradiology and picture archiving and communications systems business. Ms. Mason served as General Manager of the Women’s Healthcare business and as a General Manager in various capacities for the Services business of General Electric Healthcare from 1996 to 2000. Ms. Mason’s additional healthcare experience includes her tenure with Bayer AG/AGFA from 1989 to 1996 where she last held the positions of Senior Vice President for Bayer Corporate Health Care and Senior Vice President for the AGFA Technical Imaging Business Group. Ms. Mason began her career in healthcare with American Hospital Supply/Baxter Healthcare in sales, marketing and managerial roles from 1977 through 1988. Ms. Mason received her B.A. from Indiana University. Ms. McEachern has served as Global Head of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance since December 2014.
