TASK, CONDITIONS, STANDARDS
• TASK: To familiarize the soldier with the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW).
• CONDITION: Given a M249 SAW, motivated Soldiers and a will to learn
• STANDARD: To load and fire the M249 SAW and fire in combat situations. To also be able to correct any malfunctions incurred while firing

• Features: The Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW), or 5.56mm M249 is an individually carried, gas operated, air cooled, magazine or belt fed, light machine gun with fixed headspace and quick change barrel feature.
• Fires from the open bolt position
• Can be used in the Automatic Rifleman (AR) or Light Machine Gun (LMG) position for squad configurations
Primary function: Hand-held combat machine gun

Cause : Dirty or dry weapon
Corrective Action : Clear weapon, clean if necessary, and lubricate with CLP
RUNAWAY
Cause : Bad trigger group
Corrective Action : Control weapon till out of ammo or break link Turn in to Armory for repairs immediately
