We would like to thank Maureen Carson for her commendable leadership as head of Civic Planting. We would also like to thank all the members who have worked in our gardens this past month:

On 8/9 Janet McCabe, Dianna Dwyer, Diane White, and Maureen weeded the Welcome garden.

On 8/12 Janet McCabe, Dianna Dwyer, Jane Waugh, Noel Kondub, Barbara LeCornec, and Maureen weeded the meadow side of the Recycling Center Gardens.

On 8/26 Dianna Dwyer, Jan Allen and her husband Richard O’Grady, Anne Cheng, Krystyna Vaughan, Kathleen Mathews, Marge Pavlov, Andrew Sverdlove, and Maureen weeded at the Recycling Center Gardens.

On 9/3 Sally Russell with help from Ginny Fox's yard guy weeded the triangles at the Fairway traffic circle. Ginny, Sally, and Birlie Lau also weeded those gardens earlier in August. They will plant some asters there soon to add some fall color.

Sorry if we have omitted anyone or if you have worked in one of the gardens and we don't know about it, please let Maureen know at [email protected]! Thanks to all who recently participated. It's been hot and sweaty but a lot of fun to work together for just one hour on a few mornings last month. Come join us and WE'll SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER....

We will send out reminders before each work date and will let members know if additional times are scheduled. Remember, our gardens are open so any member can stop and weed or deadhead at any of the gardens anytime to suit their schedules.

If you have not helped in the gardens due to physical limitations we understand. But if you are able and we haven’t seen you helping in the past year or more you are not fulfilling your civic responsibility to the SPGC. If you cannot work during scheduled times, please go weed on your own time and let Maureen know! The weeds are always there no matter the day or time and the gardens are open areas with access on weekends. We look forward to more participation.

Stamford Neighborhood Grant ProgramThe Stamford Neighborhood Grant work is moving forward. Janet McCabe is heading that initiative. We have signed a contract with Riverside Inc. and obtained all the zoning papers needed. The fence installation will hopefully occur in September. The Board has provided funds for restoration of the sign (if need be) as well as landscaping work to trim the shrubs in the back of the sign.
