How Do I See My CounselorThere are three ways to make an

appointment to see your counselor.(1) Students my come by the guidance

office with a pass to see the counselor. If she is not available, ask Mrs. Smith, guidance secretary to leave a note in her office to call for you.

(2) Leave a voice mail at the number on this PowerPoint presentation.

(3) E-mail at [email protected].

Counselor ConfidentialityInformation shared with the

counselor is personal and is not shared with other individuals. However, if you intend harm to yourself or harm to others, I am required by law to share information with someone who can help.

Grade Point Average (GPA)Grade Point Average, or GPA, is

calculated at the end of each semester using a 4.0 scale.

A= 4 quality pointsB= 3 quality pointsC= 2 quality pointsD= 1 quality pointsF= 0 quality points

How is Grade Point Average determined?Assign appropriate number of

Quality Points to Letter Grade.Total all Quality PointsDivide Quality points by number

of courses taken.

ACT PLANAll 10th Graders will take the PLAN on

Tuesday, October 22, 2013.The PLAN is a practice ACT which

measures your ability in the area of Reading, English, Math, and Science.

ACT (American College Test) scores are used by many colleges to determine if a student meets admission criteria.

PLAN- Doing Your BestGet plenty of sleepFollow directions exactly, and don’t be

afraid to ask questionsMark your answer folder carefully, Fill in

all ovals neatly.Don’t spend too much time on any single

question. For hard ones, choose the answer you think is best and move on.

Just like the ACT, there is not a penalty for guessing. Be sure to answer every question.

PLAN- Calculators You Can UseYou may use any four-function,

scientific, or graphing calculator, unless it has features described in the PROHIBITED list. For models on the Permitted with Modification list, your will be required to modify some of the calculator’s features.

PLAN- EnglishThe PLAN English Test Measures

your understanding of standard written English- punctuation, grammar and usage, and sentence structure (Usage/Mechanics) – and your understanding of the use of strategy, organization, and style in writing (Rhetorical Skills).

PLAN- ReadingThe PLAN Reading Test measures

your reading comprehension by focusing on skills such as:◦Referring to details in a passage◦Drawing conclusions◦Making comparisons and

generalizations

PLAN- ScienceThe PLAN Science Test measures

your scientific reasoning skills, based on material that is typically taught in first- and second – year high school general science courses.

PLAN- MathThe PLAN Math Test measures

your mathematical reasoning. The test focuses on your ability to reason in math rather than on how well you have memorized formulas or can do involved computations.

Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHSGE)

The State Board of Education voted unanimously on a resolution to phase out the use of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHSGE) as a graduation requirement. The AHSGE will be replaced with end-of-course test aligned with instructional content to ensure that our graduates are prepared for the workforce, technical school, and two- and four-year colleges.

Your sophomore year should be a year of personal growth!

Start planning for the future by taking the interest inventories on ACPS (KUDER) and beginning to look at various colleges and careers

Complete your 4-year plan through ACPS (KUDER) and submit it to me
