SHADOWS In general, the closer an object is to
the screen, the sharper the shadow. As the object gets further away, the shadow becomes blurry.

UMBRA the total darkened part in the middle.
PENUMBRA the partially darkened part around the edges.

LUNAR ECLIPSE The Earth’s shadow falls on the
moon.
LUNAR ECLIPSE (CONT.) A TOTAL lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes
through the UMBRA of Earth’s shadow.
A PARTIAL lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes through the PENUMBRA of Earth’s shadow.
