Electricity and Magnetism
By : Shakira Kurniawan
All facts you need to know about Electricity & Magnetism!
What is magnetism?Magnetism is an invisible force that attracts to
some metals such as iron or steel. There’s also a north and south pole in it. Earth is like a giant
magnet. It has that magnetic field all around it.
The magnetic field protects the earth from the solar wind.
What is electricity?Electricity is a result that gives us light every day. There are those electrons flowing all around us.
This is how a electricity work
How do magnets work?A magnet works by having magnetic field. It
attracts to iron, nickel, and cobalt. A Magnetic field creates a result of moving charges such as electrons. Magnets has a north pole and a south
pole. N & N( North and North) or S & S( South and South) won’t stick.
The magnetic field picture after you spread iron filling around that bar magnet.
How does electricity work?
Electricity is made of the movement of electrons. These electrons have a negative charge letting it move from one place to another. In our daily life we us electricity.
Some information that we use everyday in our lives without noticing it!
How are electricity & magnetism connected?
Electricity and magnetism are related because of electrons. We can make a circuit with electricity and magnet. For example from an iron nail we could make a circuit by using (1 coil wire, 2 normal wires, 1 battery, and 1 iron nail.) It’s called an electromagnet.
Schematic drawing of circuits.
What are some practical uses of electricity & magnetism?
Some practical use for example is the bullet train. You can also say that’s a maglev train.(Magnetic levitation.) It has no
wheels. It has a world record of speed of 334 M.P.H(miles per hour) or 554 kilometers per hour. Most trains has a driver in it but maglev train doesn’t. Did you ever wonder how a maglev
train goes really fast? It’s because the trains hover the track. It lifts 1 cm only. It has a north and north magnet underneath
that maglev train. Cool facts:Maglev trains aren’t only in Japan. It’s in Germany and many more countries.
I’ll put a picture in the next slide!
Picture of how a maglev train works
Electric ShockDefinition:
It means if you rub your shoes on the floor and hold someones hand that person will get the electric shock. That electrons get pass to that person.
Don’t put water to the electric socket! It’s dangerous!
Schematic drawing Definition:
It means a diagram that shows what you have made from a circuit.
For example:You can make a circuit and draw a schematic drawing.
What you might be thinking of schematic drawing!
CircuitDefinition:
This uses electricity and atoms flowing all around it. It starts the same place and ends the same place.
An electric circuit example.
Direct currentDefinition:
It means electric current flowing in the same direction.
Alternating currentDefinition:
Electric current that reverses its direction many times. It reverses every direction.
