Athena replacement shaker screens meet API RP13C standards and are available for the

leading manufacturers of shale shakers.

A two-dimensional (and to some

extent, three-dimensional) patchwork

of stainless-steel waft and weave

wires interlock to form the final mesh,

which is stretched into two or more

layers and fit across the shaker’s

bed. Tensioning can be applied as

part of the shale-shaker mechanism

or pre-tensioned on a rigid frame.

Shale shakers come in a variety of

shapes and sizes, and today’s designs

are fundamentally the same as those

produced 50 years ago, consisting of a

metal basket that vibrates from forces

generated by multiple electric motors.

This vibration accelerates the natural

settling of solids in the drilling fluid as the

fluid passes over and through the shaker.

The vibration function has evolved over

the years into a combination of elliptical

and linear motion; but the essential

part of this solids-control process is

the screen and its designed function.

We prepare a sample of each screen design for conductance

testing to confirm our mesh combinations produce the intended

flow rates and perform sieve tests to ensure D100 screen

ratings comply with API RP 13C requirements.

Triple-layer, square-woven wire cloth

Athena OEM replacement-screen cloths are made of woven,

stainless wire bonded to perforated plates and are available

to fit all major manufacturers’ shale shakers. For other designs,

we use stainless-steel wire cloth affixed directly to a welded

frame. Our screens are manufactured to ISO13501 standards,

ensuring they are fit-for-purpose and can handle the toughest

solids, enabling better control of drilling fluids and improving

overall efficiency of drilling operations.

Wire quality greatly impacts the efficiency of shaker screens.

We analyzed manufacturing and quality control of shaker

screens and found that some screens had a lifespan ten

times longer than others. We select the most effective

manufacturing techniques and quality assurance programs,

We designed a fine, three-layer square-woven cloth mesh

that improves efficiency during drilling operations. Our
