SHAPE YOUR FUTURE
BY TACKLING KEY MISSIONS
SHAPE YOUR FUTURE,
DRIVE PROGRESS
Engineers, technicians, project managers…
The men and women of Safran constantly
develop innovative solutions in the
aerospace, defense and security markets
to shape the world of tomorrow. Safran is a
global leader in a number of high-tech markets.
But at Safran, innovation goes well beyond just
improving technology. For us, innovation
means making things easier for passengers in
airports, increasing security for both countries
and individuals, and designing aircraft that are
friendlier to our environment. At the same time,
we anticipate the needs of future generations.
By inventing new solutions, Safran plays
a pivotal role in meeting the critical challenges
facing the world today, and tomorrow.
Our strategy of continuous innovation and
technological breakthroughs is in large part
molded by new restrictions, such as the
increasing scarcity of natural resources,
higher oil and gas prices, the need to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions, preserve our quality
of life and much more. Guiding all of our
actions is a single goal: to bring everybody
measurable environmental, economic, social
and human benefits.

Eco-aircraft One of the main challenges facing tomorrow’s
aviation industry is to make aircraft “more
electric”, and therefore lighter, more reliable
and more fuel-efficient. At Safran, some
300 engineers are already working on the
enabling technologies needed. In fact,
the dream is already beginning to come true.
The Airbus A380, for example, is fitted with the
world’s first electric thrust reverser actuation
system. In addition, new aircraft engines
like the LEAP advanced turbofan will be lighter,
quieter and less fuel-hungry, to benefit the
entire planet.
Expanding citizenship rightsThrough a new national identification program
combining fingerprint and iris recognition
technologies, designed by Safran’s engineers,
more than 1 billion Indians will be receiving
a biometric ID card. It will guarantee their rights
as citizens, allowing them to vote and receive
healthcare and social benefits.
Nearly 12% of annual revenuesinvested in Research & Development. Some 450 doctoral scientists work at Safran companies, and nearly 150 doctoral candidates are finishing their theses here.
Patents: nearly 24,000 titlesin the Safran portfolio. Our strategic research objectives include aircraft engines with innovative designs, expanded use of composite materials, wider use of electrical power on aircraft, and biometric systems.

DRIVE PROGRESS,
KEEP INNOVATING
AEROSPACE
Leader, and still strivingSafran makes commercial and military
aircraft engines, helicopter turboshaft engines
and rocket engines, covering the entire process
from design and development to production
and support. Working alone or in partnership,
Safran has gained international leadership
positions in all of our product lines. Today,
for example, every two and a half seconds,
a CFM56-powered airplane takes off somewhere
in the world! Our leadership also covers aircraft
systems and equipment, including landing
gear, braking systems, wiring and nacelles.
Safran works with most of today’s leading
aircraft-makers and airlines, and we contribute
to all major aircraft programs.
Our dynamic performance is anchored in a
proven ability to deliver innovative solutions and
breakthrough technologies, by drawing on the
technological synergies between the different
companies in the Safran group.
DEFENSE
In the front lines, always on alertTo protect people and ensure homeland
security, Safran invests in civil and military
avionics, in particular for aircraft navigation,
guidance and modernization. We are also a major
player in optronics (electro-optical equipment),
including world-class technologies for air, land
and sea applications for both armed forces and
security services.
SECURITY
Expert with an eagle eyeSafran is one of the world’s leading suppliers
of identification systems, and No. 1 in
multibiometric technologies, as well as
fingerprint, iris and facial recognition systems.
We continue to develop our expertise in identity
management applications, access control
and personal rights. Safran’s technologies are
used for tens of millions of secure transactions
a day around the world, meeting the emerging
security needs of people, businesses and
countries. We have also acquired extensive
experience in managing very large-scale
projects, as well as developing solutions keyed
to local needs.
5
In France, Safran has already delivered more
than 240,000 secure terminals. We produce
some 800 million smart cards a year,
worldwide, and several hundred million
biometric ID documents.
The new LEAP engine
consumes less fuel, which
means fewer polluting
emissions. It has already
been chosen to power
the Boeing 737 MAX,
Airbus A320neo and
Comac C919.

Staying close to students and graduatesSafran’s priority objectives include developing collaboration with schools and supporting students in their career choices. We have formed a network of “Safran ambassadors”, who are in fact former students of these schools who have become Safran employees. Their mission is to establish close contacts with students during various panel discussions, conferences
and informal get-togethers, and provide guidance in their studies. Safran also sends specialists from Group companies to teach in these schools, and even help define courses to better meet industry needs. To make sure that students discover
our technologies and job opportunities, we also organize plant visits for students, and welcome some 6,000 interns, apprentices and work-study participants every year, and more than one hundred doctoral students.

FOSTER DIVERSITY,
CAPITALIZE ON YOUR TALENTS
SAFRAN CORPORATE UNIVERSITY
Boost your careerWe created Safran Corporate University to accelerate the development of our employees’ skills and continue to strengthen our human capital. With locations in France, Asia and North America, Safran
Corporate University is also designed to foster a real corporate culture across the Safran group, anchored in our identity and shared values. The University’s programs address all employees, no matter what their job or where they work.
Develop your skills, multiply your
experiences, facilitate the sharing of
expertise… The performance of a high-tech
enterprise depends on the creativity and
motivation of its people. At Safran, we support
you throughout your career. Mobility – between
jobs, companies or continents – is a source of
growth and multicultural enrichment, factors
which are indispensable for the ongoing
development of Safran. We recognize the value
of change, and that’s why we support your
mobility in every sense of the word. To facilitate
your development, Safran also supports you
through dedicated HR teams, career counselors
and an array of tools, including a job forum,
employee interview-evaluations, and much more.
A herstory of innovationOne of Safran’s primary objectives to support diversity is gender equality, a key to corporate unity. Our actions primarily target equal remuneration and fair hiring practices. But Safran
goes even further, as shown by our partnership with the association Elles
Bougent (“Women on the Move”), which promotes science, engineering and technical careers for female students of all ages. Safran was also, as usual, a partner in the 2012 Women’s
Forum, and 30 of our female employees contributed to the conferences and workshops organized at this international event.
