Shared Services
The value proposition
“Building a platform for better public services at lower cost”
Bernard MutetiHead, Public Sector
Connected Kenya Summit, April 18th to 21st 2011

Shared services is a businesses approach and an IT architecture designed to allow agencies to share key parts of their infrastructure, applications and business processes within their own organization, with other agencies and with the general public.
Challenges facing Government today
– Limited budgets in Treasury. Reducing Government cost is a necessity, not an option
– The need to modernize, consolidate or optimize IT infrastructures– The need for improved processes– The need to provide secure access to information to other Government agencies
and to the public at large– Responding to the competitive challenge of globalization– More demanding citizens as they experience the service improvements
technology brings
Shared services value proposition
– Economies of scale – minimize capital and operating costs – Focus on core competencies to better serve the public– Enhanced inter-agency cooperation and collaboration– Eliminate redundancy and free up resources for use elsewhere
