A NOTE FROM OUR PARISH LIFE DIRECTOR
In our first reading we hear the prophet Malachi asking God when He will send the just one, the one who will help his people live lives of faith. Paul takes it further and tells us that Christ has come to deliver us from the fear of death, that death has no hold on us. Those who die have nothing to fear. Have you ever met someone who is old and wise? I have. Their eyes are gentle. Smile lines are etched into the wrinkles of their faces. Kindliness and holiness have become a way of life for them. Simeon and Anna in our readings today are such people. They have lived their lives in prayer wai ng for this messiah. Now He is here as a child, and they have no problem recognizing him. Faith is an inner assurance that rises within us to convince us that God is at work. That belief, at that moment, is a gi . They are people of faith. You might just be one of those people. If you are, thank you for your life of holiness. If you are not, then like me, let’s keep working to drink deeply of God’s Spirit, day a er day. God is real, at work at all
mes. Faith is a gi , an inner assurance that this is so.

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN The importance of making rules
As parents, we want our children to see us as their allies and teachers, not just the people who lay down the law. But some mes, rules are more effec ve — rules are simple and easy to remember, and leave no room for error. When it comes to your child’s safety, rules are cri cal. And when it comes to your child’s body, rules can help them understand how to protect themselves from predators. Establishing rules about who can see or touch their bodies is an important part of preven ng child sexual abuse. For more informa on, request a copy of the VIRTUS® ar cle “Some mes a rule is more effec ve than a discussion” from h p://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protec ng/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Ar cles.aspx.
