Sharing of Medical Records Update

Overview
Update the NNE Patients Council regarding • MIG• eDSM • Sharing Medical Records
Detail• MIG is now live• Currently 20% of patient records are available to be shared
• Success of MIG dependent on patient records being available to view if required
• EMIS - records are automatically available to share• TPP is different you have to set share via eDSM• When someone needs to view record the patient is always asked for permission – they can say NO
• Legal duty to make records available to share• Must adhere to Data Protection Act• Must adhere to all 7 Caldicott principles
• 1-6 keeping information safe• 7 duty to share information
• RIG Guidance Notice to all healthcare organisations for records to be made available to share
• Agreed to set implied consent to all records • Does not over-ride any dissents already set
• The MIG project recognise the need for eDSM shares - dedicated sub project
• Co-ordinated approach across the county• Patient and public feedback taken into account• No countywide media campaign planned• CCG can do own media – facebook and twitter• Joint communication and support materials will be issued to practices shortly

• Ask PPGs to approach their practices to see how they could support with this eg during flu clinic talking to patients and collecting explicit consents
