The Congregation Council, ros- tered leaders and all staff have been making significant efforts toward pro- claiming the word of invitation and welcome. We give thanks for the entire congregation for your warm outreach to others in the name of Christ. During the March Council meet- ing, the following Statement of Inten- tional Welcome was unanimously ad- opted. It has appeared in the Sunday bulletin, is on the website and now and then will be repeated in printed matter. Congregation President Ralph Wat- kins and several leaders have already received several comments of thanks for the statement. It reads as follows: We at Saint Luke Lutheran Church believe that every person is a child of God and God’s unconditional love, grace and mercy is there for all people. Every person has worth as an individual and every per- son is entitled to dignity and respect. We publicly welcome people of any race, nationality, age, ability, sexual orien- tation, gender identity, and gender expres- sion into the community of this congrega- tion, and we encourage everyone to share their faith, gifts and talents in worship, service, study, leadership, and fellowship. We commit to remove all barriers that exclude people from full and active partici- pation in this congregation. oin us for Vacation Bible School (VBS) this sum-mer, June 26-30, from 9:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m. We welcome children who turned 4 by September 1,

2016 through current 5th graders. The theme this year is “Passport to Peru: Discovering God’s Good Gifts.” The children will learn how God gives us patience, comfort, peace, love, and joy along with learning about the geography, culture, traditions, and people of Peru. In addition, teen volunteers are also needed to assist the children to and from and during the ac-tivities. To register children or teen volunteers, go to www.saintluke.us and click on the VBS link on the lower left side of the page. Any questions regarding VBS should be directed to Melissa Groen at [email protected].

or the third year, a team from Saint Luke served side-by-side at A Wider Circle. Thanks to the group of children, teens, and adults that sorted toys, pictures, household goods, business attire, and

put together cribs. A Wider Circle (www.awidercircle.org) is a local non-profit that works toward ending poverty. They furnish per year homes of over 4000 families who are transitioning out of shelters, escaping domestic violence, or otherwise living without basic need items (mat-tresses, furniture, household goods, professional attire, etc.) They also provide job preparedness support for their clients. The volunteer coor-dinator said that donations stay in the warehouse only between 24-48 hours before they are in the home of a client.

Register now for Choir Camp Saint Luke’s popular Choir Camp program will be in ses-sion July 17-21, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. This year’s theme is Worship, and we will be learning a musical about worship, entitled Why? To conclude our week, a closing program will be held on Friday evening, July 21, at 7:30 p.m. Children who have completed grades one through five are eligible; visitors and friends are welcome also! A typical day in-cludes morning worship, snack, and musical activities, followed by afternoon field trips which relate to our theme. Registration forms were mailed to all potential partici-pants who are members of Saint Luke. Additional forms are in the Happenings kiosk, or can be secured from Mu-sic Ministry. For questions, please contact Music Min-istry at 301-588-4363, ext. 245, or e-mail jpannebaker@ saintluke.us. Adults, middle school, and high school students are needed to assist with this program. Middle school and high school students must complete a form as well. Please speak with Dr. Pannebaker to let him know of your interest.

prayer shawls, scarves, and baby blan-kets. Would you like to help? No expe-rience required. Ruth Moorman gives classes in knitting, and the quilters have different levels of skills for participants. The quilts are shipped to Lutheran World Relief and the knitted items are well-loved! The Caring Ministries Team gives out prayer shawls, scarves are gifted to our Sunday Hospitality guests, and baby blankets are sent to Global Health Ministries. On Saturday, March 25, the family from Eritrea was presented with quilts of their choosing, and mother Semret was given a prayer shawl. Although winter is drawing to a close, the family is grateful for the warmth of the items

Dr. Anthony Leach was the clinician for this year’s Music in the Parish Workshop on Saturday, March 18. Dr. Leach is Professor of Music at Penn State University.

Dr. Leach was the guest director for this year’s Choristers Guild Youth Choir Festival at Saint Luke on Sunday, March 19. Our Confirmation and Martin Luther Choirs partici-pated in this Festival.

Perry Beamer represented Saint Luke in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) High School Honor Choir at their National Convention in Minneapolis, March 8-11. Under the direction of Eric Whitacre, the choir sang with the Minnesota Orchestra in Orchestra Hall in Min-neapolis.
