Spoil delivery by Fully-enclosed conveyor belt to minimize impact

Reprovisioning of recreational facilities at Shek MunTo facilitate the SCL Hin Keng Station construction, some recreational facilities at Hin Tin Playground that are permanently aected by the SCL works will be reprovisioned at On Muk Street Garden in Shek Mun.

After the completion of the reprovisioning works, On Muk Street Garden was handed over to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department at the end of 2014 and opened to the public on 12 January this year.

In addition to the tness station, the Tai-chi Garden and other recreational facilities, over 86 trees were planted to provide fresh air and a beautiful landscape.

To minimize impacts on nearby trac and the environment, a fully-enclosed conveyor belt was set up at the tunnelling works site at Hin Keng to link up the tunnel shaft with the spoil treatment facilities. The spoil produced from the drill and blast works will be treated and packed o via the carriageway next to the Sha Tin Water Treatment Works.

The conveyor belt is approximately 46 metres long and fully covered by noise insulation material to reduce noise as well as dust. The conveyor belt started its operation at the end of 2014. It can handle a maximum of 350 tonnes of spoil per hour.

Delivering spoil via conveyor belt and taking less busy trac routes will reduce the number of construction vehicles travelling on the private road of Hin Keng Estate.

Spoil excavated by drill and blast will be removed from the tunnel and transferred to the shaft by dump trucks. Large rocks will be crushed into small pieces by

the spoil treatment facility for recycling or further handling.

SCL (Shatin Section) Public Forum organised by Sha Tin District Council

Community visit to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival

The “Shatin to Central Link (Shatin Section) Public Forum” was held by Sha Tin District Council on 15 January at Hin Keng Shopping Centre. MTR representatives were invited to attend and provide updates of the works progress in Shatin. Apart from listening to the views of residents, MTR representatives also answered their questions in detail to address their concerns.

Hin Keng Information Counter's mission accomplished

To support the Sha Tin Festival 2014, the Corporation invited primary and secondary schools in Sha Tin to enter a hoarding drawing competition and submit drawings with the theme “Sha Tin to become more vibrant with the new generation rail connection”. 12 winning entries were selected, with one champion, one rst runner-up, one second runner-up and three merit awards for the primary and the secondary school section respectively. The Most Participatory Awards went to S.K.H. Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School (Secondary section) and P.L.K. Siu Hon Sum Primary School (Primary section).

The prize presentation ceremony was held on 25 June at Lung Hang Estate Community Centre. The winning pieces are displayed on the hoardings of SCL Hin Keng Station works sites.

The Corporation has been communicating closely with the local community through various channels. Starting from 2014, the Hin Keng Information Counter was set up at Hin Keng Shopping Centre.

Apart from collecting views from nearby residents on SCL works, updated information of the SCL project was also provided at the Counter. Nearly 500 enquiries were received in the past year. The Counter closed service in February this year. We will continue to keep in contact with the public through a variety of dierent channels.
