A simply stunning tree. The bark of this elegant himalayan birch tree peels each year, revealing the next layer of perfectly white bark which is accentuated by lenticels lines. It has delicate oval shaped, dark green leaves which turn golden yellow in the autumn and decorate the tree perfectly. This medium sized Birch tree is extremely suited to a wide range of planting schemes in the UK, from urban planting right through to gardens and parklands. Betula utilis Jacquemontii is a very versatile tree which is tolerant of most soil types and can be planted effectively as a single focal specimen or in groups to exaggerate the effect of the gleaming white bark. Mature height: 7-12m Fastigiate Lime Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’ is a compact, neat and tidy clone of the classic Small Leaved Lime, Tilia cordata. This tree has small and shiny heart-shaped leaves which are dark green on the surface and light green on the underside. The creamy coloured, fragrant flowers appear in July and are a welcome addition to this attractive variety of native tree. In the autumn time, the foliage turns a golden yellow. Tilia cordata has a regular, pyramidal shape and maintains a strong central leader and evenly branched crown through to maturity. The great benefit of planting a clonal selection of a native great is that you get consistency with each plant, the same height and shape can be expected from each tree planted and this is a great advantage when selecting trees for avenue planting. This tree is a tough performer and will survive planting in a range of soil conditions, including heavy clay and urban conditions. Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’ is a clone which was selected from a Boston Park and has been in cultivation in the UK since the 1960’s. A super tree for avenue planting, this versatile tree is a classic choice for parkland and larger gardens where space allows. It can be maintained as a pollard or left to develop to larger proportions, given the limitations of the site. Mature height: 12-17m Whitebeam This stunning whitebeam tree has foliage which emerges from purple shoots in the spring, soft and silvery-white. As the seasons progress the leaves harden to become a more distinct grey on the underside and green on the surface. The clusters of creamy white flowers appear in April and May, followed by bright orange-red fruit in the autumn time, when the leaves turn a golden brown before falling. Sorbus aria Lutescens delicately coloured spring foliage elevates this tree well above the other cultivars. At maturity this small tree retains a rounded and compact shape, requires little maintenance and will thrive on all soils.The regular and compact shape of the crown also make it a good candidate for avenue planting.
