Embrace Your Past Experiences — Good and Bad

Wednesday evenings we have been sharing our life stories as well as beginning a series on the Holy Spirit. God is and always has been intimately involved in the events of our lives and working all things together to produce faith and reliance on Him. Much of this is the work of the Holy Spirit!

“Remember today what you have learned about the Lord through your experiences with him” (Deuteronomy 11:2a GNT).

You must embrace the experiences of your life — the good ones, the bad ones, the shameful ones, the right ones, the wrong ones, the happy ones, and the sad ones — and stop running from your past if you want God to use it for good in your life.

Galatians 3:4 says, “Were all your experiences wasted? I hope not!” (NCV).

Don’t run away from your past! Because of pain, many people deny their past, ignore their past, discount their past, regret their past, or resent their past. They revise their past and make up stories because they’re happier dealing with the lie than the pain of the past. But if you’re in denial, God can’t use your experience for good.

God can use every experience in your life for good, but you’ve got to stop running from those experiences. You have to embrace them. Maybe your parents weren’t that great, maybe you weren’t that hot in school, maybe you weren’t the football captain or the prom queen — so what? They’re your experiences. Own them.

Stop pushing the bad experiences out of your mind. You’ve got to remember them. Deuteronomy 11:2a says, “Remember today what you have learned about the Lord through your experiences with him” (GNT).

That verse is saying that the important thing is to remember the lessons. How do you do that? The best way to remember the les-sons and experiences of your life is to keep a journal. I’m not talking about a diary. A diary is a list of what you did: “Today I went to the store and bought milk.” You don’t necessarily write in a journal every day. But every time you have an important les-son, you write it down so you won’t forget it: “That was painful. I learned that the hard way. I don’t want to forget that.”

To remember what you’ve learned about God, keep a journal. Then you can look back and remember what God taught you so you can be encouraged in the dark times of your life and know that God is still working for your good.

What do you do to remember God’s faithfulness and answered prayer?

If you are “not a writer”, what are some ways you can keep a record of God’s lessons besides paper and pen?

Dollar Days for the Children’s Home of Lubbock is this Sunday, September 17th. All Kid’s Cash from that day will be donated to the home.

Ladies 3D (dinner, devo, and dessert) will resume on Monday, October 9th. It will be in the Multi-Purpose Room at 6:00

pm and all ladies are invited to attend.

Youth News: The Monahans Youth Rally will be on Sunday, October 15th. Bruce is needing two parents to volunteer to drive so that the teens can go. Fallapollaza is Saturday, October 21st. On Saturday, October 28th we will be hosting our annual Fall Carnival and we need lots and lots of candy. So when you’re at the store our teens would really appreciate it if you picked some candy up and brought it to church. There is a bin in the foyer or you can bring it by the office. This event is

a youth fundraiser and a great outreach to our community.

Prayer Requests

I’m Asking for Help

I’m often guilty of thinking no one will want to help, when really, I haven’t asked for any

help. This scenario fits my work, school, and home life in addition to work in ministry.

This week, I have been reminded that God never intended for us to do life alone. I am so

thankful for all of you who have offered help, whether in teaching, coaching, leading chil-

dren’s church or in praying for all of these things. Each role is so important, and together,

we can glorify God so far beyond what any of us can do alone. I thank each of you.

At the children’s ministry meeting Sunday, we discussed children’s church, children in action (children’s monthly

devos), and LTC. I would still love to have a few more helping with each of these areas, so I ask you to consider

praying about these ministries and let me know if you feel God leading you to any of these areas.

For Children’s Church (CBC):

I still need 6 adult leaders and 13 helpers (adult or youth).

For CIA (Children In Action):

I would like to have one family host a devotional or activity for each month of the year. I still need 11

hosts.

For LTC:

I need coaches for art, Bible reading, chorus, scrapbooking, song leading, impact video, poetry, Power

Point, and song writing.

If you would like more information about what would be required for any of these roles, or if you are ready to sign

up, please feel free to contact me by text or phone call at 575-706-2521, email at [email protected],

on Facebook, or catch me at church.

Thank you so much for being a part of this church family!

Jill

Don Harkness came forward on Sunday and asked for prayers of restored faith.

Remember the following as they continue to heal: Lisa Calderon, Bruce Daughtry, Jan Groom, JoAnn Madron, Maggie McNabb, and Lorie Mitchell.

Shut-Ins: Grace Autry, Bob and Velma Brown, Durees Carriaga, Pauline Crisman, Audrey Fisher, Vivienne Garner, Kay Oakley, and Richard Titus.

Prayer Connection Cards: Gary Bannister, Loretta Forbes, Carol Moore, Dave & Kay Oakley, and Brady Tigert.

Thank you all so very much for the cards, calls, and prayers. I am doing very well. I should be finished with my treatments by middle of October and then only take medication. Thank you all for your love and support. With much love and apprecia-

tion, Jo Ann Madron

Georgina, Eva, Brynlee, Makaylee, Alyssa, Heather, Rorey, Carina, Becky, and Sydney: Thank you so much for your sweet notes and visit. It was very thoughtful. Love, Kay Oakley

Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Kyle Mayrhofen. He passed away Tuesday, September 5th. His services were held on Saturday, September 9th. Please keep his wife Callie and their boys in your prayers during this

difficult time. Also keep Ralph and Veda Jennings in your prayers and the rest of the family.
