October 31st Trunk or Treat Last year’s Trunk or Treat was a huge success. This year we will need decorated trunks, people to help with the food & drinks, floaters to help with games, and a set-up and take down crew. November 11th Church Open House This is the date we’ve chosen to celebrate our 70th anniversary of meeting at this location. If anyone has pictures from the past, we would like to make copies for a bulletin board. Any articles or information about the history of the F’burg church will be greatly appreciated.

MINISTER’S NOTES

FISHING FOR SOULS It’s worth noting that Jesus never dealt with any two people in exactly the same way. There is not a “one size fits all” approach to evangelism. Everyone is different. The conversation Jesus had with the woman at the well is markedly different from the one he had with Nicodemus. These two examples are a case study of how to adapt and become, as Paul said, “all things to all people” (1 Corinthians 9:22). Paul tried to find common ground with all people to bring many to Christ. This does not mean that we compromise or do sinful things. We must never lower our standards in order to extend our reach. Jesus and Paul simply teach us to find a ground of commonality with people we are trying to lead to Jesus. Often in evangelism, Christians will find what they disagree with about a person and then argue, instead of starting with what they may agree with. That’s why we must learn to listen and pray for wisdom. Jesus calls us to go “fishing for people,” and that means we use different kinds of bait for different kinds of fish. As Greg Laurie says in his book, Tell Someone, “You may be down and out, or you may be up and out, but you are still out. Jesus says, ‘Come on in!’” PRAY FOR THE FOLLOWING OPPORTUNITIES • AFC Weekend—October 12-14 • Trunk-or-Treat—October 31 • Invite Your One Day—November 11 PLEASE PRAY FOR ME THIS FRIDAY I have the golden opportunity to address the boys’ varsity football team this Friday before their game with Boerne.
