Mechanical Engineering Technology – Design & Drafting
https://www.sheridancollege.ca/programs/mechanical-engineering-technology-designWork Term Capabilities
The list below indicates the types of jobs that Mechanical Engineering Technology – Design & Drafting graduates perform in industry. Cooperative Education students in this program should be able to perform the tasks as indicated.
Work Term 1 2 3 Grad
ANALYTICAL TASKS Calculate areas, volumes, weights, quantities Determine costs and estimates Determine simple stresses Calculate velocity, acceleration of machine components, mechanisms and linkages
DRAFTING Apply all drafting standards Produce simple drawings, details and assembly working drawings Sketch and express conceptual ideas Read blueprints Produce complex mechanical drawings Apply the principles of 3-D drafting (descriptive geometry) and intersection of shapes, i.e., to the sheet metal, aircraft and marine industry
Draw hydraulic and pneumatic circuits Prepare drawings and plans of process piping, elevations, isometric spools and equipment
CADD Work on CAD systems Execute drawing from a sketch Plot/produce hard copy Use micro base software (i.e. CADKEY, Solid Edge, etc.) Plan for CAD execution using techniques and system manipulation Provide client support for the dealers of CAD systems and the CAD industry including demonstrations, machine set-up and sales Transfer a conceptual design to a working drawing Develop programs to calculate or design machine parts, Create 3-D parts
WRITING TASKS Write reports including lab reports Write requisitions, purchase orders and fill estimate forms
Check codes and standards involved
DESIGN Write simple NC code, use MasterCAM to produce complex code Analyze and select different bearing types. Select proper lubrication for various applications.
