    ELEMENTARY EDUCATION IN INDIA

    Education is important

    not only for development

    of one's personality, but

    also for the sustained

    growth of nation.It is thefoundation on which the

    development of every

    citizen and the nation as

    a whole hinges. The quality of elementary

    education in India has

    also been a major cause

    of worry for government.

    SARVA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN

    After the District Primary Education Programme (DPEP)

    of 1994, the govt. has now launched the "Sarva

    Shiksha Abhiyan" orSSA. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan was

    launched in 2001 to universalize and improve the quality

    of elementary education in India.

    It has set 2007 as the deadline for providing primary

    education in India and 2010 as the deadline for providing

    useful and relevant elementary education to all children

    in the 6 to 14 age group.

    EDUCATION IN URBAN AND

    RURAL AREAS

    Despite all the efforts of

    the government,

    universalization of

    education in India

    remains a distant dream.

    While the literacy rate is

    65.38% according to

    2001 census, the female

    literacy rate is 54.16%.While 80. 3% urban

    people are literate, 59.4%

    of the rural population is

    literate.

    Secondary education can

    be instrumental in

    shaping and directing a

    child for his bright future.

    Secondary education

    serves as a link between

    primary and higher

    education.

    A childs future depends alot on type of education

    the child receives.

    Higher education of indiais one of the mostdeveloped in the entireworld.

    Its scenario is improvingin quantitative andqualitaive terms.

    Students from variousparts of the world arecoming to india forachieving highereducation.

    AMERICAN EDUCATION SYSTEM

    American education system requires thatstudents complete 12 years of primary andsecondary education prior to attending university

    or college. This may be accomplished either at public (or

    government-operated) schools, or at privateschools. These 12 years of schooling (or their

    equivalent) may also be completed outside theUSA, thus giving foreign students theopportunity to pursue the benefits of the

    American education system.

    BACHELORS IN USA

    A candidate who hassuccessfully completedclass XII is eligible forthe BachelorsProgramme or Under

    Graduate Study in USA.

    The bachelors degree orunder graduate studyusually lasts for 4 years.In some casesaccelerated Programmecan be completed inthree years, while someprofessional fieldsrequire five years.

    MASTERS DEGREE

    Masters degree is the firstGraduate degree in the liberalarts and Sciences and certainprofessional fields requiring 30

    credit hours of full-time studywithin a year or 2 years.

    You can get your Master'sdegree by taking 8 courses ofsubjects with 3 credits eachplus a thesis of 6 hours credit

    or 10 courses of subjects with3 credits each without thethesis.

    Usually masters degreeinclude M.S and M.A degrees.
