Friday, 9th February 2018 Headteacher: Mr Darren Jones No. 4 Headteacher Message As our half term break is upon us, it is a great opportunity to reflect upon a happy, exciting and successful half term. We have enjoyed many fascinating learning opportunities. Year 5 have recently visited the Globe Theatre linked to their study of Romeo and Juliet. I know they all had an amazing time and have used this experience to explore and write some delightful playscripts. Year 2 have been studying about a historical heroine close to our hearts here at Grove Park, Florence Nightingale. They visited the ‘Florence Nightingale Museum’ and learnt a wealth of facts about her life and have produced some stunning examples of writing. There are all are now very knowledgeable about her life and how she helped so many people. Year 4 have been researching Anglo-Saxon life and to place this in an exciting and meaningful context they held an Anglo Saxon day which involved dressing up, exploring artefacts and a special visitor came into school. Class assemblies have been a real joy this term, Year 3 have explored ‘The Sneetches’ and the ‘Rotten Romans’ and today we were entertained by Year 4 Pine and their assembly linked to the Anglo-Saxons. Year 3 and 4 children have been developing their understanding of mindfulness and are learning how to support their mental and emotional well-being; skills very much needed in the modern world. As part of Mental Health week we have been supporting children to better understand themselves and each other, to show kindness and respect. This week all pupils have had a Guardian Angel to tell them how amazing they are. As part of our continuing success and outstanding offer to children we were delighted to receive an ‘Outstanding’ grading from Hounslow through our Peer Challenge Initiative. This involved two Headteachers visiting from outstanding schools and observing teaching, looking at data and our curriculum. They were delighted with Grove Park and commented on the excellent and holistic curriculum, wonderful teaching and excellent results. We are all very proud of this achievement and accolade. I wish you a very happy half term break and look forward to the remainder of the Spring term. Headteacher Message

As our half term break is upon us, it is a great opportunity to reflect

upon a happy, exciting and successful half term. We have enjoyed

many fascinating learning opportunities.

Year 5 have recently visited the Globe

Theatre linked to their study of Romeo and

Juliet. I know they all had an amazing time

and have used this experience to explore and

write some delightful playscripts. Year 2 have

been studying about a historical heroine close

to our hearts here at Grove Park, Florence

Nightingale. They visited the ‘Florence Nightingale Museum’ and learnt

a wealth of facts about her life and have produced some stunning

examples of writing. There are all are now very knowledgeable about

her life and how she helped so many people.

Year 4 have been researching Anglo-Saxon

life and to place this in an exciting and

meaningful context they held an Anglo

Saxon day which involved dressing up,

exploring artefacts and a special visitor came

into school. Class assemblies have been a

real joy this term, Year 3 have explored ‘The

Sneetches’ and the ‘Rotten Romans’ and

today we were entertained by Year 4 Pine and their assembly linked to

the Anglo-Saxons. Year 3 and 4 children have been developing their understanding of mindfulness and

are learning how to support their mental and emotional well-being; skills very much needed in the

modern world.

As part of Mental Health week we have been supporting children to better understand themselves and

each other, to show kindness and respect. This week all pupils have had a Guardian Angel to tell them

how amazing they are.

As part of our continuing success and outstanding offer to children we were delighted to receive an

‘Outstanding’ grading from Hounslow through our Peer Challenge Initiative. This involved two

Headteachers visiting from outstanding schools and observing teaching, looking at data and our

curriculum. They were delighted with Grove Park and commented on the excellent and holistic

curriculum, wonderful teaching and excellent results. We are all very proud of this achievement and

accolade.

I wish you a very happy half term break and look forward to the remainder of the Spring term.

Polling Day

Safer Internet Day 2018 Safer Internet Day 2018 was celebrated globally on Tuesday 6th February 2018 with the slogan “Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you”. More than a thousand organisations across the UK got involved to help inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. At Grove Park, the children took part in discussions and activities around this theme and it fitted really well with the theme of Mental Health Week and ‘Being Ourselves’.

As we approach half-term and the children will have a lot more free time on their hands, we thought it may be useful to let you know about a very website that has been launched by the government for parents. The new online service, called Parent Info, gives families the information they need to help them navigate the minefield of issues children can now face when using the internet safely. Here is the link: http://parentinfo.org/ Some children are keen to use apps called Music-ly and Snap Chat and as these are also social media apps, the following information from the NSPCC is very important: https://www.net-aware.org.uk/networks/musically/# http://www.childnet.com/blog/introducing-snap-maps-the-new-location-sharing-feature-in-snapchat We are hugely grateful to the staff for helping the children to understand how to use the internet sensibly and to parents for their support and vigilance with this important area of safeguarding our children.

Year 2’s trip to the Florence Nightingale Museum

Year 2 went on a school trip to the Florence Nightingale Museum in London! We learned all about her life and how her family reacted when she told them she wanted to be a nurse. We also learnt all about her amazing work during the Crimean War and how she transformed the conditions in the hospital in Scutari. We had a fantastic day!

Yum yum in my tum!!

The Spring term school lunches are

now available to be paid on

Parentmail (PMX).

Unless you’re FSM everyone in Years

3-6 is required to pay for school

meals. If you have changed your

child’s lunch provision to a packed lunch then let the

office know promptly.

Please ensure that school lunches are paid up-to date

and remember that payment is due in advance of

meals being taken.

Total cost for Spring Term: £128.80

Important reminder!

Please be reminded that because of children's severe allergies, this

school is a Nut and Kiwi free zone. This includes in your child’s

lunchbox, boxes of chocolates and birthday cake. Thank you.

Mental Health Week 2018

This week, Grove Park have been participating in Children’s Mental

Health week. This year’s theme is celebrating being ourselves and

appreciating others and their talents. As part of this week, each child

has been given a guardian angel to look out for and make them feel

special. The children have shown appreciation, kindness and even given

their chosen child a little present or two! What a great way to spread

kindness across the school. Even the staff have joined in!

Miss Arnaouti - Year 5 Class Teacher

Parent Consultations

Parent Consultation meetings are taking place on

Tuesday, 20th and Thursday, 22nd March. All

appointments will have to be made via Parentmail

(PMX) by logging into your account. Once logged in,

you will be able to book a 10 minute appointment to

see your child's class teacher. These will be available

to book from Monday, 5th March 2018. If you

experience any technical difficulties please do come

and see me in the office so I can help you resolve any

issues.

Miss Hayley O’Brien - Business Support Officer

Safety First!

Please be reminded that the yellow zig zag lines outside of the school entrance are there for a purpose. They

are there to ensure that the school entrance is clear and everyone can arrive to school safely. If there is no

parking on St. Thomas Road please park a few streets away and walk the last part of your journey.

Being late to school is not an excuse to park on the yellow zig zag lines.
