Theissen Training Systems (TTS) is one of the leading manufacturers of live-fire training applications, with production sites in Germany, Belgium and North America. We develop, produce and install complete training range systems for Small Arms Ranges, Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) facilities, and Combined Arms Live-Fire Exercise (CALFEX) Ranges, that include Tank and Attack Helicopter operations.

Our highly qualified and well trained research and development team with application engineers, software specialists, electronics engineers, and electricians can customize products to meet end users specifications and infrastructural requirements. To enable swift and timely response to complex and challenging training requirements, our research and development departments are co-located at our headquarters in Dusseldorf, Germany. With sales and engineering working hand-in-hand and communicating face-to-face, we can not

only supply off-the-shelf products, but can also provide highly customized solutions meeting your specifications and requirements.

For more than a century, the founder and his family have been active in engineering and production. Since 1934 the name Theissen has stood for leading designers and producers of target appliances of all kind. Back in the early days, the company was called “Fritz Theissen & Söhne”, and later “Theissen Fassaden- und Maschinenbau GmbH”. One of Theissen’s departments was specialized in targetry. Due to Theissen’s good quality and long presence in the targetry business, some users call a pop-up target mechanism a Theissen (pronounced Tyson), and are in fact referring to the founder’s name. In 1993 the management decided to focus exclusively on targetry products; thus Theissen Training Systems was established.

TTS offers a wide range of multifunctional infantry target mechanisms for all types of shooting ranges.

The flagship of our product range sets standards for live-fire training and can be deployed in eight (8) different modes as stationary and moving target systems, utilizing our world-patented Target Cube unit. This modifiable target mechanism offers a unique combination of flexibility, excellent reliability, and safe easy handling.

The modular concept of our systems enables us to provide deployable, as well as permanently installed, versions of our target lifters supporting flexible applications as radio- or landline controlled, hardwired or battery-powered, solar-powered, or a combination of either or all. These attributes contribute to extraordinary energy efficiency and allows extensive operational cycles without the need of permanent battery charging. Additionally, the compact design and low weight enable convenient transport and easy storage.

Because of the high demand for counter terrorism training, friend and foe discrimination skills have become more and more important. To address this enhanced situational awareness requirement, TTS has designed a fully mechanized adaptor attached to our Infantry Pop-Up Targets which presents both front and back view as well the neutral position. The adaptor can turn in the raised and lowered positions as well as on the move.

Shooting on moving (running) targets is a real challenge and provides enhanced situational training for any shooter. Moving target training continues to build the unique awareness and reactionary self-confidence necessary in today’s ever changing live-fire environment.

At TTS, the further expansion of our modular target systems encompasses the abilities where targetry, silhouettes, motion, and speed can be altered to diversify the training and thus enhance training realism.

With these capabilities, our animation can be as unpredictable as the real combat threat.

lomah - location-of-miSS-and-hit

For precision shooting and zeroing, we offer cutting edge marking and scoring technologies for supersonic and subsonic projectiles.

The Location of Miss and Hit (LOMAH) system is a training and zeroing system for precision shooting ranges. It provides immediate performance feedback for supersonic ammunition and specifies the positions of hits on a target, or near misses beside the target, with exceptional accuracy.

A TTS LOMAH can be installed on existing targetry and is prepared for legacy or other vendors’ target mechanisms. It enables interaction with, and is powered through, the target it is connected to. The calculated position of the shot

is transmitted down the range and can be displayed on a handheld controller, a range computer, or a shooter’s monitor.

Due to automatic scoring, the system omits the need for repeated access to the target area for the retrieval of information. The system reduces errors that are made in manual and time-consuming measurements and analysis of shots. Data loss that is caused by the failure to measure all shots due to identically placed rounds, particularly in the case of automatic fire, is eliminated.

Using a wide-angle 3D LOMAH consisting of a special detection unit enables a wide shooting angle up to Azimuth: ± 30° and Elevation: ± 10°.

The Box Target systems can be used for the scoring of hits for all kind of small arms, including pistols and sub-machine guns with subsonic ammunition. The high performing sensing solution, consisting of three sensors mounted inside a wooden framed target, register the shockwave generated by a projectile. The generated signals are used to calculate the position of the shot. Rubber is positioned around the frame to give a zero-wind detection system for the automatic sensors.

The acoustic sensors operate in the subsonic as well as in supersonic regions. In combination with a target lifting mechanism, a Box Target can be moved from concealment to exposure and returned for maintenance or replacement of silhouettes if the shooting line is not in use. To protect the target in concealment position, the target pit can be covered by a shutter.

Either simultaneously or independently of the control system, a fully computerized Shooter’s Monitor enables operation and hit evaluation right at the firing line on precision live-fire ranges equipped with LOMAH Targets or Box Targets. The monitor gives a detailed view and precise hit results. Registered hits are displayed graphically as well as in Cartesian co-ordinates. Shot results are displayed instantly providing immediate performance feedback. The shooter sees the location of the shot and can, if necessary, correct his aiming point.

Our Shot Sensors, developed to guarantee unimpeachable hit counting and to eliminate wrong scoring on multi-lane ranges, are installed on each firing position. With two high performing acoustic sensors, the muzzle bang of a weapon fired is registered. A registered hit of a target, on a lane where no shot was fired at the shooting position, will be displayed and marked as invalid.

TTS target mechanisms are mainly used outdoors because of their sturdiness. Nevertheless, these products are perfectly applicable indoors and guarantee high reliability.

Additionally, we manufacture, supply, and install overhead retrieval target systems in various configurations that are specifically designed for dynamic and scalable training in indoor shooting ranges.

These easy to use small arms target systems are specifically designed for dynamic and scalable training in indoor shooting ranges and support training at varying shooting distances, while simultaneously, the 180° turning target mechanism presents the friend or foe side of a target board.
