A service-oriented architecture (SOA) is the underlyingstructure supporting communications between services. SOAdefines how two computing entities, such as programs, interact in such a way as to enable one entity to perform aunit of work on behalf of another entity. Each interaction is self-contained and loosely coupled, so thateach interaction is independent of any other interaction.
The most important aspect of service-oriented architecture isthat it separates the service s implementation from itsinterface. In other words, it separates the what from the how.

Discrete manufacturing shop floor information andcontrol flow management is still a challenging taskdue to the heterogeneity of data structures and
information systems. The objective of vertical integration from high levelEnterprise Resource Planning (ERP) to the machinelevel is still unrivalled.Internet based manufacturing and SOA are theanswers for full process integration of control.

Enterprise Architecture (EA) research resulted in a numberof elaborated architecture proposals with a more generalscope: GERAM, PERA and manufacturing specific CIMOSA.
All these modeling techniques lacked STANDARDIZATION.
Proposals for BPM at the implementation level leveragingenterprise application integration, are promising, but ..

Objective:To bring together domain dimensions of BUSINESS,ARCHITECTURE and APPLICATION with their ownmodeling concepts. The end result would be aplatform independent model to be converted into
a platform specific model.
