Elephants! Runaway trains! A ty-phoon at sea! (Oh, my!) All this and much more is coming your way as a cast of five of Columbia’s best bring Around the World in 80 Days to life. Using little more than a few chairs, minimal props, and a whole lot of creativity, Chip Collins, Ellen Rodillo-Fowl-er, Jeffrey Sigley, Ripley Thames and Bill Arvay create an endless array of locales as Victorian gen-tleman Phileas Fogg attempts to win a wager that he can circle the globe in the then unheard-of time of eighty days.
Based on the classic Jules Verne novel, Mark Brown’s Around the World in 80 Days is a fast-paced, exciting comedy adventure that’s sure to please!
Travel with the actors to all seven continents and marvel as these five actors portray 39 different
characters. Directed by Frank Thompson, Around the World in 80 Days will delight adults and children alike.
All performances will be at The Market Space at 701 Whaley. Visit
workshoptheatre.com for more details and to purchase your tick-ets online, or call the Box Office at 803-799-6551. Group ticket pricing is available. Please con-tact the Box Office for more in-formation.

The 1950s are out, and change is in the air! Hairspray Jr. is the family-friendly musical piled bouf-fant-high with laughter, romance and deliriously tuneful songs. Adapted from the Broadway produc-tion that won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Hairspray Jr. is a show that will celebrate diversity, love, acceptance, and unity, and bring audiences to their feet with its positive message and uproarious sense of humor. It’s 1962, and spunky, plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has one big dream — to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” When she finally gets her shot, she’s transformed from social outcast to sudden star. In balancing her newfound power with her desire for justice, Tracy fights to dethrone the reigning Miss Teen Hairspray, Amber von Tussle, and integrate a TV network in the process. With the help of her outsized mom, Edna, and guest DJ, Motormouth Maybelle, the rhythm of Tracy’s new beat just might prove unstoppable.
