Definition and Current Trends
Documents to be issued electronically by law are mainly customer invoices but can also includemany others, for example payroll statements and delivery notes.
There is a clear trend for countries mandating the use of electronic business documents, either for taxcontrol purposes or for cost reduction in public services.
Some examples of countries where the use of e-Documents is already mandatory include Argentina,Brazil, Mexico, Turkey, Austria, Croatia, Portugal and Denmark.
Several countries have already issued legislation to enforce this process in 2014 – 2015 (e.g. Chile,Peru, Spain, Slovenia). Following the EU Digital Agenda, more EU countries are expected to issue thecorresponding legislation in the next years.
