Although we were defeated, we are extremely proud of our players and our coach. Their effort and attitude before, during and after this game were ad- mirable and led numerous people, many who were at the game in support of other teams, to comment about our school in a very posi- tive way. Even though we did not win the game, we are definitely winners. Our girls formed a special bond and learned skills that will contribute to success and happiness in life. Our team and our coach  brought honor and respect to our school and contributed to our school’s reputation in a manner we will enjoy long after anyone re- members the particulars of this game. As stated by several Booster Club Board members in reference to our girls’ basketball players and coach, “You are all champions to us.” Go Eagles!!! Enrollment contracts for 2012-2013 were mailed to all families ap-  proximately two weeks ago. If you did not receive this information,  please contact the school office. Your continued support of Rich- ard Winn Academy (RWA) is greatly appreciated and we look forward to serving your family next year. Please remember that a tuition discount is offered to families who return their contracts by March 30, 2012 and elect to pay annually or quarterly. Also, prompt return of contracts, regardless of the payment option chosen, allows us to plan for next school year in a timely and quality manner. We appreciate those of you who have already returned contracts or let us know that we can expect to receive yours soon. We hosted two admissions open house events in February and have a third one planned for T hursday, March 8 at 6:00 P. M. If you are aware of a new family who will appreciate RWA’s philosophy and might be interested in attending RWA next year, please contact Mrs. Lanna McMeekin or the school office. We will extend a personal invitation. At the Board of Directors’ meeting held on February 13, the Board adopted the budget for the 2012-2013 school year. Due to support from patrons and various school stakeholders, greater enrollment than anticipated for 2011-2012, and careful monitoring of spending, tuition was not increased. Also, approval was given to add several  programs for our students. Our plans include hiri ng personnel so that students beyond fourth grade have opportunities to enjoy either mu- sic or art. We plan to involve eighth and/or ninth graders in special- ized training to help them prepare for the rigors of high school. Pending enrollment, we hope to divide the current sixth grade group of students into two groups for seventh grade to allow these students to receive additional support based on academic strengths and needs. Additionally, the upper school schedule for students in grades seven through 12 will be revised to allow for six academic periods and one short enrichment and/or academic support period each day (e. g. tu- toring, SAT preparation, enrichment classes, etc.). (Note: To accom- modate scheduling adjustments, the school day for all students will  begin approximately 10-15 minutes earlier next year.) Again,  pending enrollment, we hope to divide our current second graders into two classes for grade three and to maintain two classes for our third graders moving to fourth grade. Changes  being suggested for next year are for the purpose of continu - ally improving and enriching student achievement and for ex-  panding the services offered to our students. Changes are  based on input from all school stakeholders, the Board of Di- rector’s Master Plan and recommendations received last year as a result of the accreditation review by The South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA). Should you have questions, please contact Mrs. Bellomy or me. The second semester of the school year is “going quickly” and continues to be busy! Please check carefully your child’s third grading period report card and request a conference if you have questions about your child’s progress. Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, March 14. Help us reinforce with students that their attitudes and efforts matter for the re- mainder of the school year. Your support makes a positive difference for your child and our school and we appreciate your involvement. Sincerely,  Nancy Coleman P. S. Don’t forget to thank our 2011-2012 Board members  for making the decision to maintain our current tuition rate in appreciation of the many families that continue to support RWA during difficult economic times: Paul Swearingen, Chair; Wayne Steele, Vice Chair; Palmer Nicholson, Secre- tary; John Lewis, Treasurer; Jay Branham, Willi am Frick, Suzanne Hunter, and Amy Tate. Pennies for Patients On February 27 RWA joined more than 25,000 schools nationwide in the Leukemia Lymphoma So- ciety’s “Pennies for Patients” program. For two weeks stu- dents may contribute coins to help individuals who are sick with blood cancers such as leukemia. All money collected will  be forwarded to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This is the 17 th year of “Pennies for Patients” and the t hird year that RWA has participated. This proj ect is sponsored by Mrs. Lore Gibbons and the Beta Club. PTO’s Tuition Raffle Drawing On Thursday, March 1 at 3:00 P. M. PTO will draw the win- ning ticket for one lucky family to receive free tuition for one child for the 2012-2013 school year.
