SHOULDER ANATOMY

Bicipital Groove – groove on the humerus formed in the depression between the

greater and lesser tuberosities where the long head of the biceps brachii passes

through

FOREARM ANATOMY

SHOULDER ANATOMY DEFINE (8)

Shoulder Pointer

Impingement Syndrome

Frozen Shoulder

Rotator Cuff muscles:

Bursitis

Acromioclavicular Sprain (Shoulder Separation)

Glenohumeral Sprain

Sternoclavicular Sprain

SHOULDER SPECIAL TEST

Empty Can test – tests supraspinatus strength

SHOULDER INJURIES

Most common mechanism of injury for MOST

UPPER BODY INJURIES is

A FALL ON AN OUTSTRETCHED

HAND

SHOULDER INJURIES

Frozen shoulder –

Chronic irritation of the shoulder joint causing

extreme limitation of movement

SHOULDER INJURIES

Rotator Cuff Impingement Syndrome –

Muscles of the cuff, especially supraspinatus, are impinged

between the anterior acromion and the coracoacrominal

ligaments - decreasing space for muscle to pass

SHOULDER INJURIES

Shoulder pointer –

contusion at the distal end of the clavicle

SHOULDER INJURIES

Bursitis –

inflammation of a bursa (common – subacromial

bursa)

SHOULDER INJURIES

Tendonitis OR Muscle Strain– inflammation of

a tendon (RC or biceps tendon)

TWIZZLERS

SHOULDER INJURIES Glenohumeral Dislocation (anterior = most

common, posterior; inferior

ATHLETE will be holding arm internally rotated & elbow flexed

to 90 degrees

SHOULDER INJURIES

Fracture (clavicle or humerus)

SHOULDER INJURIES Sprain

Acromioclavicular - fall on tip of shoulder

AC = SHOULDER SEPARATION

Glenohumeral

Sternoclavicular joint – displaces upward &

anteriorly)

WRAPPING

Shoulder spica – prevents excessive abduction

and external rotation from shoulder dislocation

STEPS

Use 6” DoublePositions arm in internal rotation

(back of wrist on hip)

Pulls medial around arm (pull in)

Pulls across chest & under

opposite arm

3 crosses covering AC joint
