DO’S First you must read, understand and follow Google Adsense terms and conditions before you begin.

http://bit.ly/Adsense101

Try to increase the traffic of you site. It’s simple but need to work hard to get better traffic. Also you can say as More Traffic => More Clicks => More Income

The content of your blog should be original and unique.

Update your site contents frequently to avoid old contents problem.

Your site must be easily navigable.

DON’TS Don’t be over smart. Do not click on your own ads. It is the most important.

Don’t ask anyone (family members, friends, colleagues etc) or urge visitors to click ads on your sites.

Don’t try to edit Adsense code. Place the code as it is generated by Adsense tool.

Don’t copy and paste copyrighted material on your blogs or sites.

Don’t use contents related to Porn or illegal activities, including ANY adult related content.

Ad Networks

Ad Networks generally pay LESS than Adsense (not always but I’ve personally found that to be true)

Good Ad Networks:

Page 10: Show Me The Money

Ad Network Basics

1. When should you join an ad network? If you have decided that you would like to make some money from your blog and are considering running

ads, my rule of thumb is, don’t bother joining an ad network if you don’t have at least 1000 page views a day. Seem high? Ads for the most part work off of a RPM model, or “Revenue Per Mille (Thousand)” impressions. Let’s just say you can get a $3 net RPM for all the ads on your blog. That means at 1000 page views a day, you’ll make $3 per day from those ads, or $90 a month. Depending on the ad network, and the time of year (more spending on ads in Q4), this average net RPM figure could be somewhat higher, or lower. But a $3 RPM is a good place to start. So, if you have 100 page views a day, that translates into only $9 a month. Good enough for Adsense, but not worth an Ad Network in my opinion.

2. Do Your Due Diligence - Ask others who are in Ad Networks

3. Placement Requirements - Many ad networks will require that their ad appear “above the fold”, or above the point on the web page after which a reader would have to scroll down to find more content. This ad placement is considered “premium” and ad networks can charge advertisers higher rates for it (making more money for you).

4. Compensation & Payment - While Adsense has a net 30 payment , Glam has an amazing net 120!! That means money you earned in February, you won't see until June or July. Once it starts flowing though, it should be regular.

5. Contract Terms - So you’ve chosen an ad network, applied and been accepted. Now you need to sign the contract. What should you look out for? Read through the contract carefully and flag anything that appears like it shouldn’t be there. For instance, one contract I was handed by an ad network wanted me to give the ad network first right of refusal if I decided to sell my blog. What the heck that condition was doing in an advertising contract I don’t know, but I refused to agree to it. Contracts should demonstrate mutuality.

Where to Place Ads?!

Ad placement is CRITICAL to your overall success! It took me about a year to figure out which ads performed best where!

Test ads and their placement with CHANNELS on Adsense.

THINK about your readers! Use Psychology to earn more!!

Page 12: Show Me The Money

Psychology of your Reader

Understand how your readers USE YOUR SITE!!

LEARN generally where the best ad placements are!

TEST to see how your readers interact with ads

Let’s do a little test!!

Active Income

Active income is anything you have to do ACTIVELY to earn income. In other words, you can’t set it and forget it!

Affiliates

Sponsored Posts

Private Ads

Page 16: Show Me The Money

Affiliates

Affiliates aren’t for everyone!! Remember, if you’re writing about depression, you aren’t going to be posting a great affiliate deal on Helicopters!

Good Affiliates to Look Into: Amazon

LinkShare

Commission Junction

ShareASale

Escalate Media

MySavings Media

Impact Radius

Page 17: Show Me The Money

Be Relevant with Affiliates

If you are writing a post about cheese making, use an Amazon affiliate link to the ingredients and mention you can get some of the ingredients

Don’t post something that doesn’t fit your audience, chances are it won’t sell

Affiliates can be tricky, test out the waters!

Learn what works for your site.

Amazon and CJ are the biggest programs, start there

Page 18: Show Me The Money

Affiliates do have Banner Ads

If an affiliate program does very well on your site, consider placing a banner for that product or service in your side bar!

This will allow readers to access to opportunity without you having to actively push it!

Be careful. Don’t overwhelm your sidebar with tons of offers, it will look spammy and can turn off potential readers to your site.

Sponsored Posts

Remember bloggers SHOULDN’T work for free!!

If a company approaches you and asks you to post something, DON’T post it unless they pay!!* The asterisk is there because I will sometimes give away a freebie if I think there is a possibility of a larger relationship.

But remember the company MUST look at the ROI. They can’t pay you $1000 for a sponsored post if you only have 1,000 visitors to your site!!

Page 20: Show Me The Money

Sponsors Posts – How Much Should I Charge?

Okay…..the real answer is it depends!!

Audience, page views, social reach, the brand themselves.

My site reaches almost 300,000 unique people monthly and last month we had 3 million page views.

My cost for sponsored content starts usually at $250.

I encourage YOU to start around $25 and go up. The larger you are the more you can charge.

Remember to make them pay BEFORE you post!!!!

Page 21: Show Me The Money

Reviews & Giveaways

Should I charge for a review? My opinion is NO. It corrupts your judgment and creditability. Imagine if you gave the company a negative review AND took their money?! If a product is so small to review, charge for placement, call it a paid post.

Should I charge for giveaways? It depends. I rarely charge for giveaways, BUT others charge a substantial amount. Giveaways take time and energy and that shouldn’t be free. Make sure the giveaway benefits you in some way.

Page 22: Show Me The Money

Can I Earn a Full Time Income Blogging?

Truthfully, it’s so HARD. That was never my goal.

Most bloggers won’t earn vast amounts of money, but even $100-$200 a month is nice.

Remember WHY you started blogging. Remember WHO you started blogging for. If you are constantly worried about SEO and Income you’ll lose your focus and your audience will see that.
