From our Clergy Team

Each day I serve you, the faithful of the Shrines of Pittsburgh, my prayer is overwhelmed with thanksgiving

for the many graces the Lord has already provided for the important ministry we have undertaken and I beg

God everyday that his grace and mercy will never cease to be at work for us all. I can’t help but think day after

day how these places will grow and thrive as we grow and thrive as places known for vibrant faith and

unbounded charity.

Thanks to all of you, too, who have offered to help in anyway. Whether it is your continued involvement in

activities and ministries or new ways you are hoping to be of service, I look forward to the many ways God

will be at work through us.

As we move forward day by day seeking to highlight the things that make each shrine and parish unique, and,

at the same time, discover how we can work together to promote the shrines as treasures to be shared with

folks far and wide, I know that effective communication will be extremely important to share the good news of

the Shrines of Pittsburgh. A number of communications tools are already in effect and others are in the works

to ensure, as best as possible, that our communication is consistent and comprehensive.

Bulletin – It was a priority to have a “common” bulletin from the beginning of the Shrines grouping. I hope

that you have found the bulletin helpful during this transition. Each parish and/or shrine has its own page to

share information unique to it. In addition, there are a number of common pages that allow us to share

information that is helpful to all and in a variety of formats. I am grateful to Becky Hurst from Most Holy

Name of Jesus Parish for coordinating the bulletin each week and for those from each parish that design the

unique pages each week. Despite being well-rooted in the digital age, the bulletin is still the most effective tool

for communication in parishes. You can also access the bulletin online at: https://www.parishesonline.com/

find/shrines-of-pittsburgh.

Social Media – The Shrines of Pittsburgh already has common social media accounts on a variety of

platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. While basic information has been posted on these

accounts, in the future I hope that they will become a place to share photos and information about the goings

on at all of the shrines. The accounts are as follows:

Facebook – www.facebook.com/pghshrines

Twitter – @pghshrines

Instagram – @pghshrines

Give these accounts a follow and stay connected!

Website – While I would have preferred for the website to be up and running already, it is nearing its

completion and I hope for it to be live by the end of the month. There will be one website for the Shrines of

Pittsburgh that will host the information for each parish and shrine. Each unique location will have its own

“home” page that can be accessed off of the Shrines home page or by way of a unique web address. Each

location will have a place to display photos, histories of each shrine, contact information, parish calendars,

Mass and Confession times and much more. I’ll be sure to keep you posted as we get ready to launch the

website.

As the life of the Shrines of Pittsburgh continues to develop, we may explore other means of communications.

In the meantime, stay informed by means of the communications tools already at work.

God bless!

Fr. Nick

The Sacrament of the Sick will be offered

during a special Mass on Sunday, Septem-

ber 29 at 1:30 pm at St. Anthony’s Chapel.

This administration of the sacrament of the

sick is offered for those Catholics who are ex-

periencing physical ailments of a serious na-

ture: those who will be undergoing surgery for

serious reasons, the elderly who have be-

come notably weakened even though no seri-

ous illness is present, those who are battling

serious illnesses and have

not been anointed re-

cently, and children who

have reached the age of

reason and are seriously

ill. The Ladies of Charity

will offer bottles of Holy

Water to take home for

those who are attending.

MASS

Eucharistic Adoration & Veneration

of the Relics of Sts. Cosmas & Damian

at St. Anthony's Chapel

On Sunday, September 1st at

3:00 pm, we will begin to pray

the Church's evening prayer

before Christ in the Eucharist.

The Blessed Sacrament will

be exposed in the monstrance

at the beginning of evening

prayer and the service will

conclude with Benediction, Christ imparting His

blessing to us in His Eucharistic Presence. Fol-

lowing the service, the faithful who wish to do so

will have the opportunity to venerate a relic of

one of the saints whose feast day falls during

that month. For September, it will be the relics

of Saints Cosmas and Damian, whose feast

day is September 26th.

Dear Parishioners,

Scheduling of Masses for the year 2020 will

take place in Rosary Hall from 9 a.m. to 12noon

and from 1-3 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. PLEASE NOTE:

The date for Masses will appear in next week’s

bulletin.

Once again, limit of the Masses is 3 per family.

For most, that means doubling of same names.

We cannot for example give 5 Masses for every

individual member of a family who died, now it is

possible for example, that every sister, brother,

niece, nephew etc offer a mass for one particular

individual. To avoid hard feelings and disbelief,

no masses will be taken over the phone. When

you are here you can see for yourselves if the day

you want is free or already taken. (If you cannot

make it to the Rosary Hall have someone bring

your masses). There is a Church law which says

that one Mass each weekend and holyday must

be for PARISHIONERS which means that fifty

some Masses a year are already taken up.

Please note also that of the 3 Masses permitted,

only 2 can be on a weekend. We have to try to be

fair to everyone. Everyone would like weekends

but it’s impossible to accommodate everyone.

Weddings, silver and golden anniversaries are not

included in the 3 Masses and may be scheduled

whenever. Masses on CHRISTMAS, EASTER,

MOTHER'S DAY, FATHER'S DAY, THANKSGIV-

ING will be for all parishioners living and

deceased. No individual intentions on those days.

(Masses on All Souls Day are also for all Poor

Souls).

Also, if you get a specific date you want, it

would be nice for some family members to be

present at Mass. So often, there is no one from

the deceased's family present for the Mass.

PRAYER FOR OUR CHURCH

O GOD, YOU HAVE MADE US THE CHURCH OF YOUR

DEAR SON. MAKE OUR PARISH A FAMILY OF ONE

HEART AND MIND IN LOVE TOWARD YOU. GRANT

THAT OUR COMMON LIFE AND WORK MAY BE AN

EXAMPLE TO ALL ABOUT US. GUIDE OUR PRIESTS

IN THEIR WORK. ACKNOWLEDGE THE INTERCES-

SIONS OF IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY OUR PA-

TRON, AND KEEP US SECURE IN YOUR LOVE. AMEN

From the Sisters of Merciful Jesus

We are starting a little book store mostly with material on Divine Mercy.

We hope that through these materials the devotion to Divine Mercy might be more known!

Our founder Bl. Michael Sopocko was a great apostle of Divine Mercy that never ceased to do

everything in his power to make God’s Mercy more known and loved! As his spiritual daughters it’s

only fair to continue such an amazing work!

We hope that Pittsburgh will soon burn with the fire of love for God’s Divine Mercy!

Whoever is interested to take a look at our materials please come and visit us at the Divine Mercy

Center by St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. It is better to send us an email to confirm a date so that we

could be available for you!

We also accept any prayer intention which we offer especially during the hour of Mercy every day!

([email protected])

Blessings and prayers in our

Merciful Lord Jesus!

Blessings!
