BUILDING COMMON GROUND
Building Common Ground [for growth]
Population growth in the Piedmont Atlantic Mega region(PAM) is project-ed to rise 78% from 17 million to over 30 million by the year 2050. Urban sprawl and development is expected to consume twice as much open space from its current 17,00 km to well over 45,000 km if building as usual continues. Productive agricul-ture land is expected to take the greatest loss at 21% of the current acreage followed closely by grass-lands and forests. Large ecosystems are continuing to become fragmented and distributed in a haphazard manner that will further the devalue these communities. Futhermore - ex-panding the urban foot print will raise temperatures, degrade air quality, and reduce city services. Smart Cities Ini-tiative is a small but important step to fostering planning at a city wide and regional scale. Planning at this scale allows communities to take advan-tage of this connective urban fabric that in a way that can reduce cost. Regional planning for growth at a system wide scale can help us key specific areas where there will be future overlap in city services. Cities working and planning together will produce a stronger more livable envi-roment that takes advantage of re-sources and creates lasting partner-ships for generations to come.

[Data] Esri 2010 Census + FEMA
[POPULATION][FLOOD ZONE]
The 2010 FEMA flood zone analysis revels that the potiential for flooding on the Fort Loudoun watershed is lower in areas of greater urban density. Consisquently the last major flood damage for Tennessee occured on the Cumberland River which is not associated with the TVA project.

R Land purchases and flowage rights aquired by TVA amounted to 16,200 acres. Clearance operations displaced 317 families and 6 cemetaries. Requiring the relocation of 878 graves and 182 monumets. Additonally, 6 miles of railroad & and 66 miles of roadway were reconstructed. This process began in May 1941 and was completed by March 1943.
