Morgan is currentlybeginning a new project on how the historianThucydides and thephilosopher Plato use historiography to advanceparticular and competingviews of the world. Day 1 | In Transit

Depart your gateway city for Palermo, Italy.

Day 2 | Palermo, Italy

Upon arrival, transfer and check in to the Excelsior Palace Palermo.

Gather with your fellow travelers at a WelcomeReception, followed by a Welcome Dinner.

Day 3 | Monreale | Palermo

Discovery: Monreale and Palermo.Uncover the influences of the various peopleswho settled in Sicily, one of the great culturalcrossroads. Visit Monreale’s Santa Maria laNuova, a cathedral with splendid mosaics, andadmire the Conca d’Oro, the Golden Basin.

Continue to Palermo to experience a Sicilianmarket. The outdoor markets here are knownfor their lively energy and unique assortment ofwares. Enjoy regional favorites during lunchbefore continuing to Palermo’s imposingcathedral, a blend of Moorish, Gothic and Norman architecture. Step inside the PalatineChapel in the Norman Palace to admire unusual mosaics that contain both Christianand Islamic motifs. Then see the Arab-Normandomes of Saint John of the Hermits and theTeatro Massimo, Italy’s largest theater.

Day 4 | Segesta | Erice

Discovery: Ancient Segesta. Visit timewornSegesta, home to a spectacular Doric templethat rises from the land. Admire a well-preserved theater carved into the side ofMount Barbaro. The structure is perched on a mountain plateau and offers a soul-stirring panorama of the Gulf of Castellammare.

AHI Connects: Sicily’s Olive Industry.Visit an award-winning, family-owned olivefarm for lunch. Taste the oil, learn about theproduction of olive oil and talk with the family.

Discovery: Erice Walking Tour. Continueto lovely Erice, nestled high on Monte San Giuliano. Erice has more than 60 churches and monasteries. During a walking tour, seetwo medieval castles and walls that date from the Phoenician era, and marvel at the Romanesque architecture of the NormanDuomo. Stroll along the village’s winding lanes,paved with shiny stones, and pass by court-yards, fountains and craft shops.

Day 5 | Agrigento | Caltagirone

After breakfast, transfer to Caltagirone, stopping in Agrigento for an informative tour.

Discovery: Agrigento and the Valley ofthe Temples. Visit the Valley of the Templesto see the Temple of Hercules, the Temple ofConcord and the Temple of Jupiter.

Lunch is served at a restaurant in Agrigento.

Continue to Caltagirone and check in to ColleSan Mauro, an agriturismo hotel located in theheart of the Val di Noto. Tonight, indulge in adinner of local, organic ingredients and wine.

Day 6 | Piazza Armerina | Caltagirone

Discovery: Mosaics and Ceramics.Delight in Piazza Armerina, known for the Villa Romana del Casale, and see mosaics withscenes of daily life, flowers and plants.

Return to Caltagirone, noted for its tradition ofcreating hand-painted ceramics. AHI Connects: Sicily’s Olive Industry.Visit an award-winning, family-owned olivefarm for lunch. Taste the oil, learn about theproduction of olive oil and talk with the family.

Discovery: Erice Walking Tour. Continueto lovely Erice, nestled high on Monte San Giuliano. Erice has more than 60 churches and monasteries. During a walking tour, seetwo medieval castles and walls that date from the Phoenician era, and marvel at the Romanesque architecture of the NormanDuomo. Stroll along the village’s winding lanes,paved with shiny stones, and pass by court-yards, fountains and craft shops.

Day 5 | Agrigento | Caltagirone

After breakfast, transfer to Caltagirone, stopping in Agrigento for an informative tour.

Discovery: Agrigento and the Valley ofthe Temples. Visit the Valley of the Templesto see the Temple of Hercules, the Temple ofConcord and the Temple of Jupiter.

Lunch is served at a restaurant in Agrigento.

Continue to Caltagirone and check in to ColleSan Mauro, an agriturismo hotel located in theheart of the Val di Noto. Tonight, indulge in adinner of local, organic ingredients and wine.

Day 6 | Piazza Armerina | Caltagirone

Return to Caltagirone, noted for its tradition ofcreating hand-painted ceramics.
