The Tar Heels are 50-16 all me against the in-state foe, including an impressive 27-4 mark at home. UNC brings a 12-match winning streak into Wednesday’s contest, with its last loss to the Demon Deacons coming back in 2009 in five sets. UNC closes the season at crosstown rival Duke on Friday for the 114th meeng in history. It is the second-most matchups between any opponent, with UNC having faced NC State 117 mes in program history. The all-me series is nearly even, with Carolina holding a slight 59-54 edge over the Blue Devils. Duke’s 54 victories over the Tar Heels are the most of any Carolina opponent, although UNC has only faced eight teams more than 54 mes. The Blue Devils have a small advantage on the home series as UNC is 24-28 all me in Durham. UNC has won three of the last five matches in Durham aſter the Blue Devils won seven straight from 2005-11. UNC defeated Duke, 3-1, at home earlier this season as part of a perfect 10-0 ACC home slate. Happy at Home North Carolina has been extremely successful in the friendly confines of Carmichael Arena, going 13-1 at home this season (including one match at the Dean E. Smith Center) and a perfect 10-0 during ACC play. The Tar Heels, whose only home loss last season came at the hands of No. 5 Minnesota, have not dropped an ACC match at home since falling 3-2 to No. 18 Florida State on Oct. 16, 2015. UNC closed the 2017 home season on a 26-match home ACC winning streak. UNC is 64-2 in ACC home matches since October, 2011. UNC has not lost more-than-one ACC home match in a season since 2009, when the Tar Heels dropped back-to-back contests against Clemson and Georgia Tech on Halloween weekend. UNC has always been strong at home, going 460-140 all me in Chapel Hill, including an impressive 131-18 (.879) mark since 2008. The Tar Heels have recorded eight perfect home seasons, including two over the past six years. UNC has only lost more-than-one home match in one of the past six seasons. Nordhorn Hing High Senior middle hier Beth Nordhorn has exploded offensively this season, recording double-digit kills in 11 matches, hing .400 or higher in nine of those 11. Nordhorn has hit at least .500 with double-digit kills seven mes, including hing .667 with 10 kills on 15 errorless swings against Wake Forest and .615 with 10 kills on 13 swings (two errors) against LIU Brooklyn. The Tar Heel senior led the ACC in hing percentage for the majority of the season and currently ranks second in the league and 25th in the NCAA with .392 clip. If the senior middle sustains her efficiency through the end of the season, she is in line to set a new UNC single-season record, besng the mark of .389 set by Paige Neuenfeldt in 2013. Nordhorn did not see a lot of playing me over her first 2.5 seasons, but aſter an injury to Sydnye Fields allowed her to start the final 11 matches of 2016, Nordhorn finished her junior year with an ACC-leading .446 season hing percentage, while leading the conference with a .403 clip during ACC play. The next-best conference player hit .359 on the year, nearly .100 points lower than Nordhorn. She did not meet the minimum playing requirements to be ranked naonally last season, playing in just 60 percent of UNC’s sets (req. 66.7%), but her .446 clip beat 2016 NCAA leader Emma Hagedom (UMKC), who finished with a .439 hing percentage last season. Nordhorn has been efficient throughout her career, hing .408 with 401 kills and 88 errors on 767 swings. Scoles, Evans to Apply For Medical Hardship WaiversSophomores Julia Scoles and Mariah Evans, who both continuetosufferfromsymptomsrelatedtoconcussionssustained at the beginning of the season, have been ruledoutfortheremainderof2017.Thepairwillapplyformedicalhardshipwaiverstoretainthisyear’splayingeligibility and will return next fall with three yearsremaining.

Carlton Records Third Triple-Double at LouisvilleOn Sept. 16, 2017, redshirt freshman Holly Carlton recorded the first Carolina triple-double since 2005,tallying 10 kills, 25 assists and 10 digs against CoastalCarolina. On Oct. 6, Carlton registered her second triple-double,posting13kills,18assistsand11digsagainstDuketobecomethefirstTarHeelin25yearstorecordmultipletriple-doubles in her career. Carlton registered her third triple-double of the season on Nov. 19, recording 10 kills, 21 assists and 12 digs at Louisville. She is one of seven playersinthenationintheonlyPower5student-athletewith three triple-doubles this season.
Only two Tar Heels had previously recorded a triple-double during the rally scoring era: McKenzie Byrd(11/6/2005) and Malaika Underwood (11/29/2001). Both also featured 10+ kills, assists and digs.

The TarHeels entered 2017with a 577-309 record underSagula, a .651 winning percentage. Sagula concluded 2016 with a 780-432 (.644) career record over 36 seasons as a Division I head coach, claiming 11 regular-season and sixconferencetournamenttitles.
Ranked sixth among active coaches inDivision I victories,Sagula has themost ACCwins of any coach and tied therecordformostleaguetitleswithhisseventhin2016.TheBronx native has directed the Tar Heels to 14 top-threefinishesintheACCregular-seasonstandings,includingfirst-place finishes in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2014 and2016.

Carlton, who redshirted for the Heels last fall as a truefreshman, helped the WJNT win gold at the U20 PanAmerican Cup in May, then participated at FIVB U20Women’sWorld Championship inMexico in July. Carltonturned in her best performance against China, leading the Stars& Stripeswith 21 points, before suffering an ankleinjuryagainstthatsidelinedherfortherestofthetrip.
Scoles returned to Minneapolis, the site of UNC’s finalmatch of 2016, NCAA Regionals, to participate in atournament in conjunctionwith theUSAVolleyballGirls’Junior National Championships. The Collegiate NationalTeamwassplitintothree12-playerteamsthatfacedoffina round robin tournament.
