Returning to work sooner can be the best medicine. Did you know the longer you are absent from work, the less likely you are to return?

Recover at work

1. Seek medical treatmentSeek first aid immediately and report your injury in accordance with your employer’s incident reporting policy and procedure.

2. Visit a doctorMake an appointment to see a doctor as soon as possible and ask your doctor to provide you with a First Certificate of Capacity.

3. Make your claimComplete a Workers’ Compensation Claim Form and return the form, along with your First Certificate of Capacity, to your employer.

4. Liability is determinedThe Insurer has 14 days from receipt of your claim to advise if liability is:

Accepted: Your entitlements commence and may include weekly payments and reasonable medical expenses.

Disputed: You may apply to Conciliation and Arbitration Services (CAS) for assistance with resolving the dispute.

Pended: The insurer has a further10 days to decide the claim. If no decision is made after this time, you may apply to CAS for assistance.

5. Return to work, Return to life.Once your GP certifies you fit to work modified duties or partial hours, your employer is required to develop your return to work program.
