FOR THREE-YEAR-OLDS. Free nominations, closed On Thursday May 28,2020 with 10. Supplementary nomination of $1,500 due at time of entry.

PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L

1 1 Phantom Boss Tiago Pereira Jorge Periban 6/15/29 SA 5f 1:00.4h C+ In blinkers, in company outside Bam Bam Again (same time) for Periban and may have been a tad the best, some urging

thru the lane, splits of :24.1, :36.1 and 1:01 flat on our watches, not terribly exciting. Was a stakes winner as a 2-year-old but seems well removed from that form now. Can't really say the addition of blinkers today had much of an effect.

2 2 She's So Special Flavien Prat Peter Miller 2/1

3 3 El Tigre Terrible Ruben Fuentes Peter Miller 5/2

4 4 Rookie Mistake Mario Gutierrez Doug O'Neill 5/25/30 SA 4f :48.4h B- Was wanting to get out just a bit most of the way but was never asked for speed, final three furlongs in :11.4 and :36.3.

Certainly retains all of his speed, just missed with a career-top speed figure in Echo Eddie Stakes last month.

1 1 Swiss Skydiver Mike Smith Kenneth McPeek 6/5

2 2 Merneith Drayden Van Dyke Bob Baffert 2/15/31 SA 5f 1:01.3h B Smooth and easy for Baffert, final three furlongs in :12 flat and :37 flat, cruising to the wire. Plenty of promise, always

has trained like a stakes type.

5/24 SA 7f 1:24.4h A- Powerful work by talented filly, a bit rank early while traveling well off the rail but then continuing strongly to the wire and then out to 7/8 pole, splits of :36.1, :47.3, 1:11.3 and 1:24.3 on our watches, never really being asked much. Good form, but not quite as strong as spectacular workouts suggest she should be. Still plenty of time for her to mature and develop.

3 3 Speech Flavien Prat Michael McCarthy 8/55/16 SA 4f :47.2h A- Sharp drill by rapidly improving filly, breezing throughout in quick drill with splits of :23.1 and :47.2. On edge for another

huge try vs. high class sophomore fillies.

SCR - Smiling Shirlee SCRATCHED

5 4 Regal Beauty Abel Cedillo Bob Baffert 10/1 5/30 SA 5f 1:01h B Inside Gingham (same time) and went stride-for-stride throughout with neither one asked, 'Beauty maybe a tad the best at

the wire, splits of :24.4, :36.2 and 1:01.2 on our watches, a couple of ticks slower than given but both looking fine and ready. Doing well and has further improvement in her.

 Race #6 Maiden Special Weight - 6 1/2F D

FOR MAIDENS, THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD. Three Year Olds, 120 lbs.; Older, 126 lbs..

PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L

1 1 Cezanne Flavien Prat Bob Baffert 4/55/30 SA 4f :47.3h B+ Worked outside Dodger (4f, :48h) for Baffert, breaking off a length behind and finishing slightly in front at the wire while

breezing throughout, then continued out to 7/8 pole under mild coaxing, splits of :23 flat and :47.2 to the wire and then out an extra furlong in ;59.4, on our watches, very impressive. Cost a ton and looks the part. Plenty fit.

5/14 SA 5f :59hg B+ In company outside Tapitution (5f, 1:00.1h) for Baffert and was ridden pretty aggressively throughout to record impressive final clocking, splits of :23.2, :34.3, :46.1 and :59 flat before coasting to the wire in 1:13 flat. Cost $3,650,000 as a 2-year-old and looks the part. Not blazingly sprinter-quick and seems certain to be at his best eventually over a distance of ground.

Page 3: Siegel's Workout Analysis Santa Anita Saturday, …...7 7 Okudah Jose Valdivia, Jr. J. Desormeaux 15/1 Race #3 Allowance Optional Claiming - 6 1/2F D FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD

2 2 Brazen Drayden Van Dyke Bob Baffert 5/16/1 SA 4f :48h B+ In company inside Charlatan (5f, 1:00.4h) and more than held his own with unbeaten, top-class 3-year-old, splits of :23.3

and :48 flat to the wire, then continued out stride-for-stride with workmate to 7/8 pole, head-and-head when pulled up. Obviously well regarded, not really sure how quick this colt is but definitely has ability and should be live vs. maidens real soon. Type that might eventually be at his best as a miler.

5/25 SA 5f :59.4h B Worked inside Midnight Mystery (same time) for Baffert, splits of :12.2, :24.1, :35.3 and 1:00 flat on our watches, mild coaxing throughout in solid work though perhaps a tad second best while getting ready for debut. Ghostzapper colt has ability and should make the entries soon.

4/29 SA 5f 1:01h B In company inside Tapitution (same time) for Baffert, splits of :12.3, :25 flat, :36.3 and 1:01.1 on our watches, slow and easy early, never really asked much through the lane (late changing leads), finishing with something left to appear best in promising move. May be a route type, seems like a useful-to-decent sort.

3 3 Quicker Victor Espinoza Jeff Mullins 12/1 5/14 SA 5f 1:01.2h B- Broke off several lengths behind Originaire (4f, 1:02.1h) closed the gap to the head of the lane but couldn't get by

(workmate waiting on him), splits of :24 flat and :49.1 for Mullins. Super Saver colt is getting fit, has some run but doesn't strike us a win-early type.

4 4 Rayray Abel Cedillo Mark Glatt 3/1

5 5 Mystery Man Mike Smith Richard Mandella 5/15/29 SA 5f 1:00.3h B+ Broke off behind R. Mandella barnmate Veteran (same time) and fell back to trail by about five lengths on the turn, then

cut the corner when asked to rally and finished with impressive energy to be clear at the wire, very promising drill for son of Violence, splits of :12.1, :24.1 and :47 flat, powerful late. Very nice prospect, acts like a colt who'll do his best over a distance of ground and is being trained specifically for that purpose.

5/22 SA 6f 1:12.4h B Broke off a few lengths in front of Amuse (6f, 1:12h) and finished stride-for-stride late without being asked much (workmate under pressure), pretty nice drill for maiden in R. Mandella barn, final half mile in :23.3 and :48.3, something left late. Has some run for sure but may not be a quick type, perhaps more like a router. Getting fit.

6 6 Charlito Umberto Rispoli Richard Mandella 15/1 5/24 SA 6f 1:13h B In blinkers, picked him up at the half-mile pole several lengths in front of Great Return (5f, 1:00.3h), was engaged

approaching the head of the stretch but drew off again with authority while being ridden through the lane and then out to 7/8 pole, splits of :23.3 and :48.1 to the wire and then out in 1:00.4 for the final 5/8ths of this six furlong work while appearing fit. Coming back well, perhaps better than last year. Ran twice on grass last year, handled the dirt fine here.

5/17 SA 5f 1:01.2h B- In blinkers, broke off several lengths in front of high-class Jolie Olimpica (5f, 1:00 flat), permitting that one to come through inside and then coming home under mild coaxing to the wire before continuing out to 7/8 pole while clearly (and understandably) second best, splits of :12.3, :37,1 and :49.3 from the 3/8ths pole to the 7/8th pole. Looks okay on the comeback trail, worth another look.

7 7 Winning Prospect Tiago Pereira George Papaprodromou 30/1 5/31 SA 4f :48hg C Official times revered and slower than given, worked inside R Cha Cha (4f, :48.2hg) in gate drill, breaking poorly and falling

several lengths back in the opening stages. Closed the gap to be lapped on into the turn but then steadily falling back and winding up a couple of lengths behind when pulled up, :25 flat, :36.3 and :49 flat on our watches. Needs more work and a lot more schooling.

5/24 SA 6f 1:15h C+ Solo six furlong drill for maiden son of Empire Maker, final half mile in :23.3 and :50.2, lumbering home under urging through the lane, slowing up in the final furlong. May have bit of run but can't endorse as an early win type based on this drill.

 Race #7 - Crystal Water S. Stakes - 1M T

FOR GOLDEN STATE SERIES ELIGIBLE CALIFORNIA BRED OR CALIFORNIA SIRED THREE-YEAR-OLDS AND UPWARD. By subscription of $100 each to accompany the nomination, closed On Thursday May 28,2020 with 12 or by supplementary nomination of $25,000 due at time of entry for non Golden State Series eligible horses or $2,000 for Golden State Series eligible horses, $750 to enter and an additional $750 to start with $100,000 guaranteed of which $60,000 to the winner, $20,000 to second, $12,000 to third, $6,000 to fourthand $2,000 to fifth. Three-Year-Olds 120 lbs.

PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L

1 1 Cono Mario Gutierrez Michael McCarthy 10/1 5/24 SA 5f 1:00.4h B Solo five furlong drill for M. McCarthy, just galloping through the lane, never asked, final quarter in :25.2. Holds his form,

may have a bit of improvement in him.

2 2 Grinning Tiger Heriberto Figueroa Anthony Saavedra 20/1 5/8 SA 4f :48.2h B Went a solo half for Saavedra, breezing throughout and finishing under a nice hold, splits of :24 flat and :48.1 on our

watches, plenty left late. Coming back well, getting cranked up again.

3 3 Prince Earl Umberto Rispoli Philip D'Amato 2/1

4 4 Brandothebartender Victor Espinoza Craig Dollase 8/15/3 SA 5f 101h TT

5 5 Oliver Mike Smith Doug O'Neill 10/1 5/30 SA 5f 1:02h B- In company outside Contagion (same time) for O'Neill and was best under a nice hold, splits of :23.4, :36.1 and 1:02.1 on

our watches, awkward changing leads (as usual) but finishing with plenty left. Doesn't really care for this main track and didn't fire at Oaklawn Park, might be time to try on grass (ran okay in only prior turf try).

6 6 King Abner Abel Cedillo Philip D'Amato 5/1

Page 4: Siegel's Workout Analysis Santa Anita Saturday, …...7 7 Okudah Jose Valdivia, Jr. J. Desormeaux 15/1 Race #3 Allowance Optional Claiming - 6 1/2F D FOR THREE YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD

7 7 Ward 'n Jerry Flavien Prat Mike Puype 3/15/4 SA 5f 1:02.2h B Long distance turf specialist went very nicely in solo main track move, final half mile in :24.2 and :49.2, mostly on his own

while staying sharp. Should fire another big shot next time out.

8 8 Lieutenant Dan Drayden Van Dyke Steven Miyadi 4/1

PGM PP RUNNER JOCKEY TRAINER M/L

1 1 Friar's Road Geovanni Franco Michael McCarthy 20/1 5/16 SA 4f :47.2h B+ In company inside Canyon Crest (4f, :48.1h) for M. McCarthy, and was much best, striding out nicely in the final stages

under mild coaxing only while coming the final three furlongs in :11.4 and :35.3. Runner-up in last pair, been knocking on the door and will be tough vs. maidens if that's where he shows up after returning from Arkansas.

2 2 Rushie Flavien Prat Michael McCarthy 8/15/30 SA 5f :59.4h A- Solo main track drill for SA Derby candidate while looking terrific, breezing every step of the way, splits of :25 flat, :36.2

and :59.4. easy early, strong late, able to go much faster if turned loose. Never been better but form suggests he'll need a substantial forward move to tackle the best local 3-year-olds.

3 3 Shooters Shoot Abel Cedillo Peter Eurton 8/16/1 SA 5f 1:02.2h B Easy breeze, final three furlongs in :11.4 :36.1, very nice for P. Eurton. Likely to be the controlling speed in the SA Derby

and if not respected could take his field a long way. Appears to have further improvement in him.

4 4 Anneau d'Or Victor Espinoza Blaine Wright 15/1

5 5 Azul Coast Umberto Rispoli Bob Baffert 15/1 5/31 SA 6f 1:13.4h B Worked inside Winning Moment (5f, 1:00.3h) for Baffert, breaking off a length in front and finishing about that same

margin ahead at the wire (workmate up there) and then continued out to 7/8 pole, splits of :24.3, :36.3, 1:00.4 and 1:13.4 on our watches, light coaxing before ridden some in the final stages, decent drill while preparing for SA Derby. Plenty fit despite the layoff but will need to step it up based purely on form.

5/25 SA 7f 1:25.2h B+ Worked inside Withholding Info (6f, 1:13.1h) for Baffert, breaking off a length in front and finishing several lengths clear at the wire while being ridden out through the lane and then out to the 7/8 pole, splits of :24.2, :36.1 and 1:00.1 to the wire, strong throughout. Looks good, likely better than he's ever been, will get the acid test in the SA Derby.

6 6 Honor A. P. Mike Smith John Shirreffs 9/55/30 SA 5f 1:00.1h B+ Final serious drill prior to the S.A. Derby, strictly on his own throughout and going easily with plenty left, splits of :12.1,

:23.3, :35.2 and 1:00.1 on our watches. Seems set for his best try, lightly-raced colt certainly has plenty of room for a significant forward move.

5/14 SA 7f 1:26.3h B Never really asked while grinding along in solo seven furlong drill, final half mile on our watches in :11.4, :23.4 and :49.4. Was hoping for a bit more pick-up through the lane but probably was doing just what he was asked to. Pointing for the Santa Anita Derby in early June.

7 7 Authentic Drayden Van Dyke Bob Baffert 4/55/31 SA 6f 1:12.2h B Picked him up at the 3/8ths pole. splits of :11.2, :35.1 and :47.2 to the 7/8th pole and then pulled up at the 3/4 pole in

1:01.2, light coaxing to the wire and mild pressure to the 7/8 pole. Seemed a tad unfocused at various stages of this work but did very well nonetheless. Plenty fit and really just needs to run.

5/24 SA 6f 1:12.2h B+ On top of his game while being trained up to the Santa Anita Derby, final five furlongs in :23.4, :47.2 and :59.2 from the half mile pole to the 7/8 pole on our watches, mild late coaxing but with something left late. Getting cranked up again and looks as good as he did when last seen in the winter.

5/17 SA 6f 1:11h B+ Splits of :23.4, :35.1, :58.2 and 1:11 flat from 5/8ths pole to 7/8ths pole, then galloped out seven furlongs in 1:24.4, getting off on his wrong lead approaching the wire but continuing strongly in the final stages after being niggled at to finish up. Previous drills were pretty easy, this won shows that the screws are in the process of being tightened. Pointing for the SA Derby.

(workmate breezing), final three furlongs in a sharp :35.3. Holds his form, might be most effective at a mile on dirt.

1 1 Parsimony Mario Gutierrez Doug O'Neill 15/1 5/22 SA 6f 1:13.3h B+ Always a willing worker and was sharp through the lane without being asked, final quarter in :24.1 for O'Neill. Returns

from Dubai better than he left, and was a good winner there last time out. Needs to be realistically spotted.

2 2 Midcourt Victor Espinoza John Shirreffs 2/15/31 SA 5f 1:00.2h B Never asked in easy drill, final three furlongs in :11.3 and :36.3, smooth to the wire. Heads to the Gold Cup in fine fettle.

5/24 SA 5f 1:01.3h C+ Solo drill for Shirreffs, under urging from the quarter pole home, splits of :24.1, :36.1 and 1:01.4 on our watches. Disappointing under the circumstances - thought he would finish better without having to be asked - but generally shows up in the p.m. when it matters.

3 3 Higher Power Flavien Prat John Sadler 9/55/29 SA 6f 1:14h B Broke off about four lengths behind completely outclassed Rogallo (6f, 1:16.1h) for Sadler and easily inhaled that one in

the final furlong, splits of :24.4, :37.1, :49.3 and 1:14.1 on our watches, mild coaxing through the lane, steady if unspectacular drill while preparing for Gold Cup. Doing well and must be considered a major player off his best race.

5/15 SA 5f 1:01.2h B Easy solo drill for Sadler, going off slowly and then finishing on his own looking fine, splits of :25 flat, :36.4 and 1:01.2, plenty left late. Getting geared up again, ran poorly in the Pegasus World Cup-G1 in January as the favorite and its hard to say why (didn't ship well?).

4 4 Brown Storm [CHI] Abel Cedillo Michael McCarthy 12/1 5/31 SA 5f 1:00.1h B+ Breezing through the lane for M. McCarthy, picking up company midway and finishing smoothly under a nice hold, splits

of :12.3, :24 flat, :35.3 and 1:00.1 on our watches. On top of his game.

5 5 Improbable Drayden Van Dyke Bob Baffert 2/15/30 SA 7f 1:25.1h A- Terrific work, picked him at the 5/8ths pole, splits of :25 flat, :36.3 and 1:00.4 to the wire before continuing out to 7/8

pole in 1:13.1, a ton left in the tank for Baffert, light coaxing only. One to beat in the Hollywood Gold Cup?

5/23 SA 1m 1:37.3h A- Almost a carbon copy if his last drill, as we picked him up at the 1/2 mile while being let run just a bit, :23.1 and :47.1 to the wire before continuing out strongly under mild coaxing in :59.3 for the final 5/8ths of this solo eight furlong drill. Top of his game.

5/16 SA 7f 1:24.2h A- Picked him up at the half mile pole, splits of 23 flat and :47 flat to the wire, then continued out to 7/8 pole under mild coaxing in :59.1 before pulling up at the 3/4 pole in 1:12.4 on our watches looking as fit as a horse can be. Was permitted to roll most of the way and turned in terrific work (he's certainly capable of doing that when allowed to), Pointing for the Hollywood Gold Cup.

on our watches, very light coaxing through the lane and then a bit eased up late. Freshened since January, looks good getting cranked up again, certainly has to be better than her last race shows.
