Introduction
• Soil properties depend on grain size
• Large granules used as the basis for nomenclature and classification of soil
• Analysis of soil particle size is the determination of the percentage of grain weight in one filter unit, with a particular hole diameter
Determination Type textural composition of soil particles
1. Sieve Analysis, technical analysis for coarse grained soil by using the filter diameter varies
Soil classification based on grain size according to Unified, ASTM, MIT and International
Nomenclatur

2. Hydrometer Test, sieve analysis for the soil finer than 0.075 mm (sieve No.200)
• Some grain size will vary through the fluid at different rates according to the large granulated
• Tools hydrometer will sink deeper into the suspension solution when the density decreases
• Hirdometer analysis carried out on 2000 cm3 solution containing 50 grams of dry soil solution concentration at a depth of 5 cm was 5 gr/lt after precipitated for 80 minutes
Hydrometer test (sediment proccess)
Examples of semi-logarithmic graph of the results of particle size analysis
Some identification can be obtained from grain size curves, there are :1. Percentage of specific grain size2. Percentage total is greater or smaller than a certain particle
size3. Uniformity or range in the grain size distribution
In the graph, an indication of aggregate grading is shown by the coefficient of uniformity (Cu) and coefficient of gradation (Cc). Expressed by the equation:
Cu bigger range of large grain size, gradation good (well graded)Cu = 1, soil measuring approximately uniformCu < 4, uniformly graded soil areaD10 = 10 % of the total grain weight diameter smaller than a certain particle size.

Conclution :Example for No.40 for sieve grain weight,= total weight – grain weight restrained= 119,33 – (0,00 + 18,11 + 24,30 + 21,44 )= 55,48 grPercentage of sieve on filter No.40,= (55,48/119,33)x 100% = 46,49 %Results count plotted on the graph, so that it can be result:D10 = 0,04 mm, D30 = 0,190 mm & D60 = 0,72 mm

So the soil categories is a good graded.
