A s the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) come to a close in 2015, the world is transitioning to a new, more ambitious set of goals, dubbed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A total of 17 SDGs have been developed seeking to end poverty, ensure a life of dignity and opportunity for all, and to protect our planet's sustainability. A major tenant of the post-2015 agenda is the role of the private sector and the recognition that investments made by this sector will be crucial in the achievement of the SDGs. The Government of Kenya (GoK) recognizes that the development challenges of this millennium require unprecedented collaboration and partnership between both the public and private sectors. This presents an opportunity for business to engage as strong and positive influences in the society. Social investments through corporate social responsibility (CSR) is one vehicle in which the private sector continuously contributes to sustainable development. Through social investments, the private sector can collectively provide significant impetus in the realization of Kenya Vision 2030 and the SDGs. In light of this, the GoK strives to better engage the private sector in order to foster broader and more targeted participation to address both the national and global development targets. Although there is growing social investment from the private sector, the efforts are is lack coordination. Hence, the GoK and KEPSA are striving to engage the private sector in order to foster broader, more coordinated and targeted participation to address both Kenya's national development goals (Vision 2030 and the Post- 2015 SDGs). This will be done through an initiative dubbed the Social Investment Focused Agenda (SIFA). Social Investment Baseline Survey A key aspect in helping Kenya achieve and deliver its commitment to the global SDGs is the need to gain a clearer understanding of the social investments made by the private sector. As a result, the GoK seeks to establish a databank of information which would be informed through a voluntary survey completed by members of the private sector and parastatals. The overall goal of the survey is to quantify and qualify the contributions of corporate enterprises in Kenya to the country's development. For any enquiries on the baseline survey, please contact [email protected]

Social Investments Conference The inaugural conference to be held in September 2015 presents a platform for a national dialogue on social investment in Kenya. The main agenda will be to take stock of milestones achieved, discuss solutions to various challenges faced, and deliberate on how the sector can make a greater impact. The conference will also entail an exhibition of corporate social investment activities and programmes to showcase their contributions. To learn more about participating in and/or sponsoring the conference, please contact [email protected]

Social Investments Awards The awards programme seeks to recognize public and private sector organizations that demonstrate excellence in their social investments. The best organizations will be awarded from micro, small, medium and large enterprises. A selection process will be used to identify the winners. To submit an entry for these awards, contact [email protected]
