Sigma Chapter Wins the Edison L. Bowers Award! Monday, October 8, 2018 From Thursday, October 4, 2018 through Saturday, October 6, 2018, the Sigma Chapter’s officers attended Gamma Iota Sigma’s 47 th Annual Management Conference at the Navy Pier in Chicago. At the conference, the Sigma Chapter was greatly honored to receive its 19 th Edison L. Bowers Award! As one of the seven Superior Chapters of Gamma Iota Sigma, the Sigma Chapter, along with other Superior Chapters, presented to a panel of judges who determined the best overall chapter. This year, Kyle Betley (Class of 2019), Ryan Klapatch (Class of 2019), Varun Sivakumar (Class of 2020), and Brian Fritz (Class of 2019), represented the Sigma Chapter. The Edison L. Bowers Award is the oldest and most distinguished award given by the Grand Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma. It is the highest honor a chapter can receive from the Grand Chapter. The Grand Chapter awarded the Sigma Chapter for its consistent approach to problems and projects related to: Chapter Management, Public Relations and Publicity, Alumni Relations, regularity of chapter activities, growth in Student Membership and strong member involvement, relationship with the Business Community, fraternity activities with other chapters, assistance with new Gamma Iota Sigma chapters, and community and public service activities. In addition, both Elizabeth Arbegast (Class of 2018) and Amanda Wolfgang (Class of 2018) were awarded the Warren L. Weeks Scholarship for each of their valuable contributions to the chapter and for their leadership. The Sigma Chapter also won 4 Black and Gold Awards, which is awarded for creative ideas implemented in the previous year. The Black and Gold Awards were awarded for the Actuarial Lending Library, Updated Resume Book, Yearbook, and Classroom Integration. The Sigma Chapter received International Chapter Awards for all 6 categories, including the new Diversity and Inclusion, Chapter Management, Membership Development, Alumni Relations, Public Relations, and Community Service. Finally, Larry Lewis (Class of 2019) was elected International Student Representative to the Executive Committee of the Grand Chapter for this academic year. Winning the Edison L. Bowers Award, as well as other chapter awards, would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the Sigma Chapter’s Officers, the guidance of our faculty advisor, Dr. Drennan, and of course our amazing members and alumni! The Sigma Chapter is so proud of its accomplishment! Varun Sivakumar, Kyle Betley, Ryan Klapatch, Dr. Drennan, Brian Fritz
